Re: new bike / shocks / nose dive?
Haven't been around here for years (and sold my 2000 R1100R a few years back) but keep in mind that the whole telelever front end is meant to prevent nose dives. So, while the zip tie might be an easy test, pay attention to the entire front end geometry when evaluating a dive problem. I actually was...

Re: Tank Bag Mounting?
I have an old BMW brand tank bag I got when I bought my bike new. It zips in place just under the rear of the tank where a zipper mount was placed and has two hooks on elastic straps which attach to the front upper part of the bike - the black iron rails just under the front of the tank. Very sturdy...

Re: Steering dampener-ectomy
Will throw my 2¢ worth. My dealer found my damper to be defective a few years ago during a routine maintenance checkup. The service shop manager said she would order one and install it when I brought my bike in a few weeks afterwards for tire replacements. Well, I show up and get the tires and she t...

Re: R1100RT Steering Lock problem...
I had sort of the opposite problem of yours yesterday - went to lock the steering column but wouldn't catch. I had to turn the wheel straight and push down on the key and turn to the lock position while turning the steering apparatus to the lock position and I felt the lock click into place and it h...

Re: R1100R fuel tank capacity
I don't have ABS and as I said, I filled to the lip of the tank with 4.1 gal after a 165 mile run. I checked my notes and seems I had gone 170 miles one time between fillups but didn't note how much it took then. I'm guessing mine is the 4.6 gal tank.

Re: Battery Tender through Accessory Port?
To resuscitate an old thread, I recently changed out my battery and bought an Odyssey at the recommendation of the sales rep at the dealership - he said it was way better than the BMW brand (and about 1/2 the price) with a lot more cranking power. And, I bought a BMW brand charger with the pigtail t...

ginsoe, love the outhorship of that pdf file. You know of any other DIY manuals by those guys? I would like to do more "myself" work on my bike. As an aside, I live in the ATL area.

Re: R1100R fuel tank capacity
With my 2000 R11R the fuel light always comes on at 140 mi but the furthest I have gotten is about 165 before I chickened out and pulled over for gas and even then it took 4.1 gal to fill it to the top of the tank. One day I will carry an extra gallon with me and see how far it gets before sputterin...

Re: Finally drank the cool aid (iPad for Christmas!)
I've had my iPad for about 6 months now (company issued) and it lasts about 10-12 hours with both wi-fi and 3G turned off (I read a lot of iBooks) and about an hour or two less with either wi-fi or 3G turned on. With BOTH wi-fi AND 3G turned on I can get about 6 hours. This is my experience only and...

Quick update. All is wonderful in the world again after slipping the cable back into its ferule/seat. :D Amazing what < 1 cm of movement will do! Re: the Odyssey - was same size as the BMW brand battery and no modifications needed to get it into the battery "box" This forum just saved me q...

Re: Best Replacement Battery?
Thanks railbender!!! You were right, the cable on the right side was sitting out of the rear side of the "seating?" and took only a second to pop it back in. The bottom picture shows what appears to be a nut which the cable sits in. Does this screw onto the end of the cable to keep it ther...

Re: Best Replacement Battery?
railbender - thanks for the quick reply and this sounds cool but - how? duckdave - I would probably have more confidence trying this step as it doesn't require much mechanical input. I admit I am somewhat challenged when it comes to troubleshooting stuff on the bike. As I initially mentioned, when i...

Re: Best Replacement Battery?
I just did a battery changeout the other day (put in an Odyssey) and it was a real b*tch to do this time. I did one about 5 years ago and raising the tank was difficult but was able to get it done w/o assistance but it ran rough for about 30 miles afterward before smoothing out. I really had a diffi...

Re: Mounting a Givi top case on a R1100R question???
I have the E 45 Monokey by GIVI. Word of caution: when I was last on the road using it in a long distance trip, my key broke off in the case lock. Couldn't use it. Fortunately some other folks in our travel party were following with their Suburban and they transported it back for me. I was able to g...

Re: Mounting a Givi top case on a R1100R question???
Here are a few pix to show you what it will look like after you get it installed. It took me about an hour or so to mount mine and had to do the cannisterectomy (removal of the exaust emmisions cannister) to get it installed. Its been about 10 years since I did it and I downloaded the instructions o...

Yep. If ya ever have it tip over on you, say while walking it up to a gas pump island, it can be a real bugger to get back uprighted...... But, while in motion, it takes gyroscopic centrifugal forces to an art form ...

Re: Newbie questions about an 01 R1100R
Got the same bike as well and have always grabbed a frame section just above and to the rear of the left foot peg to pull up onto center stand. Never knew the aftermarket handle was an option but wouldn't have gone for it anyway. The frame section is easy enough to grab and have never had a problem ...

Re: Tank bag advice
I still have the BMW brand tank bag I bought along with my bike in 2000. Have had to replace the elastic straps on the front which hook onto the latches on the handlebars once but still in pretty good shape. Until it disintegrates into dust will continue to use it. Lots of my ridding buddies use the...
