Re: windscreen 1150r

I don't have a pic (although this post really needs some), but there are four tubular brackets that it is mounted to. You would see them if they were there. The previous owner probably removed the windscreen because the bike is better without it.

Re: R1150R overheating!

By "normal" NYC traffic, you mean stop and go? Bike is air cooled and won't do well in this situation. Better to use a scooter in town.

Re: If your bike was misfiring what would you check?

It could be bad fuel. It could also be that one of your plug wires are going bad. Mine behaved like yours but very quickly got worse.

Re: Need some help.

How expensive? Getting it towed to the mechanic tomorrow. P.s. Bike only has 16k miles on it. Only 16k. Wow. It's about $500 in parts - mostly the clutch and transmission input shaft + a few odds and ends like transmission seals as needed. Transmission has to come out and be rebuilt. I would say ab...

Re: Brake Failure

Check the battery first like Buckster said. If that's not it, you need to check the fluid levels in the ABS unit. As your pads wear, the fluid in the ABS goes down, not the fluid on the handlebar. The system self-test is pretty quick. It doesn't go out until you start rolling forward as it wants to ...

Re: R1150R Oil Change

Best place? BMW dealer. They're about a dollar. Next best would be to take the old one to your local car parts place and buy a pack. A lot of the car crush washers are copper and I can say that they work in a pinch. But get aluminum if you can.

Re: Oil Level sight glass

For me, the simple dance was to put it on the sidestand when I park it in the garage at the end of a ride. The next day I ride, I put it on the centerstand as I'm getting suited up, then check. It's mostly about consistency. As I became used to the oil consumption, or lack thereof, I checked less of...

Re: Oil Level sight glass

That glass should not be opaque. Opaque = useless. You sure it isn't just overfull? With the bike on it's center stand, tip it away from you as you watch the glass. You may need a helper. You didn't mention the oil-check dance (the only way to correctly check), but this would only make the level hig...

Sadly, I will no longer be able to go. Totally gutted about it. Before I cancel my hotel room, is anyone having trouble getting a room? Didn't know if the hotel is booked or not.

Re: fuel line quick connect

You can run with just a plain brass fitting. The valves are't check-valves and are only closed when the lines are disconnected. It'll just be a PITA late on if/when you have to pull the tank. I ran into a similar issue and decided that I would go ahead and replace all the rubber fuel lines. I ran wi...

Just checking - do the engine RPMs spin up without the bike's speed increasing?
If not, does everything sound normal or is it pinging, missing, etc...?

What's the battery voltage? If it's 12+ I'd be looking at the fuses.

That's awesome. I should be able to make it. Is this a camping thing, a hotel thing or both? I would love a set of BMW air valve caps - do they have lights on them? [-o<

Re: Has anyone water tortured their bike- Carbon deposits?

High rpms on a regular basis will keep things clean. Exactly. But, if you must be gentle with the throttle to avoid pinging, you're likely past the point of "keeping things clean". I used only high octane and ran SeaFoam through on a regular basis. Problem was, it already had heavy carbon...

Re: R 1150 RT Transmission leak

Yes, you can change that seal without removing the transmission. You'll have to remove everything behind the trans and then pull the seal. I haven't personally removed the seal like this, (I've always replaced them while I had the transmission apart  )so maybe someone who has can tell you what...

Re: Has anyone water tortured their bike- Carbon deposits?

I only ever put 93 octane (premium) in my bike and it pinged very badly under load. Struggled to reach 100mph and sounded like hell when I was there. I ended up pulling the heads and documented it here: http://r1150r.net/board/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22302 . So... 1 - Very true. There was a night an...
