Re: New look

The GS mirrors look great. I was under the impression they didn't fit the R12R. Bolted right up. I did get the fittings that go with the GS mirrors, so that tells ya they will bolt right into the stock handlebar mounts. BMW sells the mirrors 2 ways, one has the mirrors and the compression fittings,...

Re: 2010 Ducati Multistrada vs R12R

I attended the Sneak Preview of the new Multi at A & S. I recall it has a 17" mag front wheel, and a big Catalytic/muffler hanging low. It may compete with the Triumph Tiger, but it is no GS. It is VERY different than the Multi Strada it replaces. I sat on it and It is comfy, the ergonomics...

Re: Tail bags...low profile, clean looking tail bag

For longer trips, I got this one in yellow for my F800GS when I don't want my Jesse's on, but I already tried it and it fits nicely on the R12R and comes in Black. No hard luggage required. It sits on the back of the seat and attaches easily with straps, holds 50 litres. http://www.giantloopmoto.com...

Re: No More BMW Roadside Assistance

After 45 minutes on hold, on hold almost an hour I broke down in Death Valley in my truck (on the road) and I was on hold for 3 hours with AAA. They SUCK! Even still, I am not still there so they did get me out, eventually. I won't say how much it cost, truck and trailer to Ridgecrest. They have be...

Here's yours truly installing Jesse bags on the F800GS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIH70t6I6WA Thanks Dan, very informative and good video. It was interesting to note that the hardware came pre-installed on your bags, unlike mine, a big plus. Thanks for taking the time to demo the process. :) N...

Re: Basic Heated clothing question

I use my Gerbing jacket in lieu of the liner that my various jackets came with. It has dual variable temp so I can adjust it to the circumstances, as well as the Gerbing gloves that I wear with it. Or if it is too warm, I take it out altogether. The jacket instead of the vest is nice in case your ar...

Re: 2007 R12R

Thanks for the help with the manual. I'll post some pics when I can get the bike outside. I've ridden Brit bikes for 40 years so owning one that doesn't leak makes me nervous, how do you know if there is oil in it? :) and the lights actually work, very strange! I came from a 1999 Triumph Sprint ST ...

All this time I thought the first gear thing was just a "characteristic". Now I find out it is a "defect".

Damn. :-k

Re: Ergonomics and the BMW R1200R

Another thought, BMW automobiles have a turn signal stalk like any other car.I wonder why they do something different on their motorcycles but follow conventional wisdom on their cars? Is that mandated by the Feds?

Re: Ergonomics and the BMW R1200R

Turn Signals / Indicator Controls - many riders find these confronting, different, or simply difficult to use. My background includes ergonomic design in the product and mechanical design disciplines and I have my particular take on the BMW (traditional) control layout. 1. The design is certainly d...

My wife and I were thinking of visitng the Daytona Beach area in February. I hope there will not be panties in the streets then. Bike week this year is February 27th through March 8th. Unless you want to participate, I'd avoid Daytona Beach then. Not because of the danger of slipping on disc...

Thanks guys. I took several more, but both bikes take a back seat to the true master of the house. I just haven't figured out a good way to bring her along for the ride that doesn't involve bolting on a sidecar and buying doggie goggles. Here you can see the Bavarian siblings giving the stinkeye to...

Re: No Helmet ...

The real thing that enrages me about that photo is that the city fathers of Mertle Beach outlawed bike rallys because they "felt" that rallys devalued their property values or some other such nonsense. I'm not a rally guy, group rider, or fan of people in general. As my dad used to say, I...
