Re: Pictorial: Engine, Transmission, and Final Drive Oil Change

Sorry, my previous image hosting company went out of business, so I transferred these images to google and relinked them.

Re: Pictorial: Engine, Transmission, and Final Drive Oil Change

Wow, I completely forgot about this topic. I just got an e-mail notification and had to reset my password because Iforgot what it was it has been so long since I visited. I do miss my R1150. Talk about a much better bike than my current Triumph Sprint ST. Hope this has helped a lot of people. :smt02...

Re: Sold the bike...

I have put 150 miles on the bike since I picked it up, and it is so much fun to ride. I don't think some of the fit and finish that the BMW had is there with the Triumph, but it's not bad. The heat shield for the under seat exhaust was touching the body panel though, and it caused the plastic to bub...

Sold the bike...

I jumped ship. I'm picking up a new '06 Triumph Sprint ST this afternoon. I wanted a bike with fairings, and I prefer the riding position of the sprint over that of the rockster. I won't lie - I was quite sad to see the bike go, but the new owner is very excited about it and I'm sure he'll take good...

Re: Which Exhaust?

I have removed the muffler from my bike a couple of times, and have always ended up putting it back. While I love the sound and the look of the bike without the muffler, the things I don't like are that the exhaust gets all over the rear wheel and gets it dirty, and the bike vibrates more when in th...

Re: Spark Plus

One thing to mention, the heat ranges/rating of bosch plugs is different than that of NGK plugs. http://www.sparkplugs.com/glossaryImages/430.jpg So according to this chart, the 6's that are from Bosch and used as the secondary plug seem to be a heat range or two hotter than the Iridiums listed here...

Re: Re:

Yes, the silverstars sold here in the US are going to last less than a regular bulb. The Sylvania Silverstar is relative crap also, as it's blue coated which reduces visible light, and thus it has to be brighter to try and make up for that, which in return reduces its life span. If you want a real ...

Re: Installed the OEM Touring Windshield

I just snapped a few pictures. And I spoke with ChicagoBMW, and they can't take it back after it's been mounted. I can understand that though. http://is.rely.net/2-31-35752-l-xsVa2WHTwX01avv87wB8w.jpg http://is.rely.net/2-31-35753-l-Lb4snbVE6umc59HvNr7JhQ.jpg http://is.rely.net/2-31-35754-l-cF91jKTm...

Installed the OEM Touring Windshield

And I hate it. I think it looks great, but the minute you pass 40 MPH, I get horrible wind blast right on my head. The noise is enough to make you want to fall off the bike just to make it stop! :) I am 6'3", and I think I may be a little bit too tall for this shield. I drove 3 miles at 55 MPH ...

Re: Headlight bulb

When is installing a relay a good idea? Installing a relay and upgrading wiring is only a good idea when you are running a higher wattage bulb. Hope this helps... - Anthony Why do you say that? Regardless of the power consumption of the bulb, thicker wire = lower resistance, which should send more ...

Re: Headlight bulb

When a bulb's power is listed, e.g., 55w/100w, is that the power it consumes ? Yes, that is the amount of power that it draws. The Phillips Vision Plus are brighter; A) Do they consume more power, and if so, should the user install a relay? They do not consume more power, because they are the same ...

Throttlemeister Cruise Control

I assume a lot of you here are using this... I am planning some longer rides on my bike, and thus I ordered a touring windsheild, and now I'm considering the cruise control. So my questions are - does it actually work? And, do we want the standard or heavy end weights? I would assume the heavier one...

Re: oil filter choice

To clarify a bit on my "OEM oil filter" statement, I don't necessarily mean you have to buy them from the dealer, but most VW/Audi oil filters are either Hengst, Mahle, or Mann. Then they are just rebranded with the VW or Audi logo and sold at 2x the cost. If you find a retailer that sells...

Re: oil filter choice

Even with all my cars, there is only one constant for me - I only use the OEM filters. I never use the K&N, Purolator, Fram, etc. The cost is only marginally more expensive, and it gives peace of mind.

Re: Tire Pressure

Ya know, I saw this thread the other day and I went and checked my tires pressures. 32F/36R.

It has been exactly the same for the past 3 months and I haven't added any air. At first I thought my gauge was wrong, but I checked with another one and it gave the same readings.

Odd.

Re: Spark Plugs - All 4

adg44 NGK's are good plugs, however, I'm a bit surprised that you chose a heat range hotter for the bottom plug than the factory recomendation, specially since the Boxer is air cooled and runs, by definition, hotter than a water cooled engine. Mind you that hot and cold plugs have their use......a ...

Re: drying your ride

I use a leaf blower to get most of the water off and out of the hard spots, and then I dry it with a bath towel. No reason to use microfiber on the rockster considering it's a matte black paint! :)

Re: Spark Plugs - All 4

I used a Husky spark plug socket to change mine out, the craftsman one I had was a bit too thick. The factory one works, but you can't stick it on a torque wrench! I changed my plugs with NGK Iridiums, and NGKs are really the only spark pluge I'll use. I went one heat range warmer on the lower plug,...

The rockster takes two H1 bulbs, not an H4. I am using Osram Silverstars. All the +50% bulbs are essentially the same. Just get whichever one is cheaper.
