Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

How are you going to handle the flange recall. I still have the old failed final drive that has the new flange on it, so I'll take that to a dealer and ask them to take the new flange off the failed final drive and put it on my "new" used final drive that's on the bike now. Glad your up a...

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

Update: The notchy feeling while spinning the wheel on the center stand definitely seemed to get worse, so I rolled the dice and ordered a final drive off of eBay that had no history of where it came from or how many miles it had, but it was a fraction of the price of a new one and less than half of...

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

How are you feeling the play? That's rather important. And if the main crown bearing is starting to go - there won't be any metal in the oil - that bearing lives outside the oil cavity. It also can be replaced. The play is right to left, when grabbing the wheel at 9 and 3. No discernible play up an...

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

Yeah, and I'm not asking you to make a call on whether it's good or bad, but definitely appreciate your responses. I think I'm just trying to find out if there is an acceptable range of play in the rear wheel? I've read different things saying some play is ok, some say it should be completely tight....

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

I did just find one on ebay for $249 (+$30 for shipping) that matches my bike (matched the parts number), but the seller doesn't know much about the final drive like what year it is from, how many miles it has on it, etc. That might not be a bad spare though to have just in case. Congrats on making ...

Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

I haven't been on this site for a while (several years), but back when I had an R1150R I was bugging everyone on here about spline failure and final drive failure trying to figure out what the odds were of it happening to me, and then one day when the bike had about 35k miles I noticed my rear wheel...

GPR Exhaust Fitment

For my birthday, my wife ordered me a new GPR Furore exhaust for my 2010 R1200R.....BUT.....the one she ordered says it is for a 2011-2014 R1200R. It will still be several weeks until I receive it, but it has already been shipped. So my question is, does anyone know if I will be able to make it fit ...

Phantom Fast Idle Lever

Owned an R1150R for about 7 years before trading it in for an R1200R. It's now been almost 5 months since I picked up my R1200R but I still (almost daily) reach down a few blocks away from home to push down the fast idle lever (which clearly doesn't exist on this bike). Anyone else remember having t...

Re: 800 miles away from home, need help.

I was wondering where this thread had gone. But yeah, my bike (the one this thread was originally about) is a 2010 R1200R. Like I said above it was just an issue with the clutch line being looped down near the footpeg, which allowed air to get trapped in the line. But by cutting the zip ties, rerout...

Re: 800 miles away from home, need help.

If Cy Young is still hanging out here - he might have a comment. One of his R1200R's had a similar problem, and it was fixed by re-routing the clutch hose line down near where it goes to the slave cylinder. Apparently it's possible for a vacuum to be drawn on the fluid if the line isn't routed corr...

Re: 800 miles away from home, need help.

Ive found out the issue is its getting air in the line somewhere, but the fluid level hasnt dropped at all so I sont know if its leaking fluid. And, after I start using the clutch again it must self bleed itself because it starts working normally again. The only time I have issues is after long (50 ...

800 miles away from home, need help.

Im in the middle of a 3,000 mile trip to see some National Parks in Utah/Arizona, and I had a strange thing happen on the interstate. It's about 67 degrees, I was going 85mph, and when I got off at an exit for gas I realized the clutch lever was very soft. Once I got back on the highway it was fine ...

Re: Another Tire Thread

Are people really getting 10,000 miles out of the PR3's??? I've been using the Conti Motions for years now just because they're so cheap, but it seems like they need to be replaced every 3,000 miles. So if I can really get anywhere near 10,000 miles out of the PR3's it would be WAY more cost effecti...

Which seat do I have?

I bought this bike a few weeks ago and quickly learned that I'm going to need the high seat just like I did on the R1150R I previously owned. I found one for sale on this site and it's on it's way to me now, but now I have an extra seat laying around that I need to sell. Problem is the part number i...

Re: Finally Upgraded to the R1200R

Yeah I later realized that the footpeg cap is supposed to be missing, just caught me off guard at first because the other side does have one. Has anyone here ran their 1200R without the exhaust for an extended amount of time? I ran my 1150R like that for years with no problems and IMO it actually so...

Re: Finally Upgraded to the R1200R

So who has the most miles out of this group? I wanted to keep my 1150R until it hit 100,000 miles, but this bike was too good of a deal and seems a little better built than the 1150R. I did see there is one 1200R for sale right now with 93,000 miles, would love to get anything near there with this o...

Finally Upgraded to the R1200R

I've had a 2003 R1150R for the last 7-8 years and it had been pretty reliable for the most part of it's 44,000 miles with me. But I found a really good deal on a 2010 R1200R with the system cases, top case, and sport windshield, and I couldn't pass it up. I've already searched around quite a bit her...

Re: required reading from a bmw mechanic

There was a poll about two years ago. Don't think it had quite the details you have mentioned. Don't know if it can be brought back up. You might do a search. Nothing really revealing from what I remember. Below is the poll I created a while back when I was having one of those moments when the inte...

Some have moved the charcoal canister there so it's not hanging down off the back of the bike anymore.

Re: Kind of a strange battery question:

Beemerboneyard got back with me and told me pretty much the same thing Ol' Jeffers said, that an unused battery should be put on a trickle charger if I'm not going to use it in the next two months. So I may just get one of those because I could use it on my KLX351 the rest of the time. I ride the BM...
