Re: Oil Consumption

Some things never change... I haven't posted here in a long time, but even years ago this was a popular topic. One thing worthwhile to check is your filler cap, you can lose a surprising amount of oil there. You would think if that were true then you'd see some evidence, like a stain on your pants l...

Re: Aerostich boots: should I keep them?

Kristi, I've looked at several pair of both "Combat Touring" and "Combat Lights" and was all set to order a pair of "Lights". Happened to go by my dealer when the Sidi rep was there and he showed me the Canyons. I don't think the toe is any thicker, in any event it hasn...

Re: Time to trade it in soon . . . .

Rob, may I offer a suggestion? I test-rode an 800ST (uhh, "extensively", you could say) and an 800S and liked them both. Went back and tried the 650GS and bought one. If you haven't ridden one of those, I think ya maybe ought to give it a try. I like the bags way better for one thing, but ...

Re: 2nd West Coast Bash - sometime 2009?

A west-coast "Bash 2" might be kinda cool, I think... It's been a few years since the first & only such bash in Utah, organized by alumnus Dean, with good attendance by many no-longer-members. Uh, yeah, and some of us are still around! I liked the route(s) shown on the Buell site, ther...

Re: A pleasant dilemma, seeking opinions...

Thanks for the replies... I'm leaning toward the ST, better weather protection and severe crosswinds are hardly noticeable on it. It's really the logical choice, but... I'm not always logical!

A pleasant dilemma, seeking opinions...

I’m leaving next week for a 10-12 day ride to British Columbia/Alberta from SoCal, the dilemma is that I now have two bikes capable of that trip and I can’t decide which one! I have an ’05 R1200ST with 36k miles on it, and just bought an ’09 F650GS (twin cyl). Either of these would work just fine, t...

Re: Parabellum Scout Fairing Info Wanted

The Parabellum Scout fairing is very solidly mounted via two of the machine screws (included with purchase of the Scout)that clamp the handlebars in place. Also, the two bolts that hold the headlight shell in place connect to brackets which in turn attach (through bolted) to the fairing. Very well d...

Shamelessly poached from another forum; good for a chuckle, I think.

Re: My Spring Wildflower Ride

The other issue might be vibration- perhaps amplified by virtue of the arm being extended. I would think it would have a lot to do with where you clamped the magic arm onto the bike, the rear footpeg subframe is one of the places I had in mind. But I would also like to fool around with mounting a st...

Re: My Spring Wildflower Ride

Thanks for the images of the magic arm, Michael. I was looking through the Bogen (okay, Manfrotto) site last week and saw that, wondered if it would work on the moto. Obviously, it does! My stepson and I both have ideas for some on-board video, I want more than the typical tank-top mount. And a grea...

Re: Blast from the past and apology for lame post

Hey, Matt... wasn't it you, SoCalRob, and myself who got together a few years back at the Rockstore? Good to hear from you again, now get a new battery and maybe we can do it again, soon.

Re: Rockster bars on a Roadster

I looked into this a while back, before I sold my 'R. It is apparently a direct swap, and the ergo's would be slightly improved (in my opinion) with a slightly more forward lean for the torso. It's not an inexpensive proposition, given the cost of BMW parts, but if you watch the "boneyard"...

Society rewards the sheep and beats down the lion.
In my opinion, it's the other way around. Lions feed on sheep.

It would seem that study reached the startling conclusion that we're a product of our environment. Brilliant.

Yeah, I tried Saeng's "stealth edging" on the Parabellum Scout fairing I had on my 'R. Absolutely no detectable effect. When I got the FJR, I still had the stuff in the garage and tried it on that bike. Same result. This looks like it has a slightly different cross-section, but it sure loo...
