Re: cost of ownership

Tlaloc, Take a look at K-bikes.com and you should be able to find a significant amount of info on the bike. The older KGT/KRS has a somewhat poorer reputation for handling/power to weight, etc. However, some folks swear by them. Most agree that it was a great engine, just not a great overall package...

Happy that you enjoyed the pics. I'll try to find some new roads in the spring.

Take care

Antelope Island: One Year and One Bike Later

In the nick of time, just before the warden put me on suicide watch, temperatures here in the Salt Lake Valley finally found their way north of 30 degrees F and the roads are in pretty good shape, despite the regular snowfall we have enjoyed over the last couple of months, allowing me to take the bi...

Re: Has anyone ever replaced fuel distributor?

Texas, I had to replace mine after a tip over incident the day I purchased my 2004 Rockster. (Note, do not let your 95 lb. wife hold up a 650 lb. motorcycle on a trailer in 55 mph Kansas winds while you go to look for another rachet tie down.) Like Boxer, I'm not sure how I replaced it, but it was a...

Doc, You have given us some great photographs and a compelling description of your adventure(s). I'm looking forward to seeing and reading more of your trip. =D> Like you, I've never felt it necessary to carry a gun on my bike, but I think you said it just right when you suggested that one set of ex...

Re: cost of ownership

Peter, I sold my R1150R and purchased a CGM K1200GT about four or five months ago. So far, I think it was a great decision. The new bike increased my touring capability several times over and the power is incredible. Even better, my insurance went down about $50 every six months as well (State Farm)...

Gypsy, Yes, words and pictures are often unable to translate our experiences. For the poet, the language itself is inadequate and their words are meant to transcend the limits of language in an effort to poeticize words in such a way that they are not entirely constrained by their material, denotati...

Doc, What an incredible and emotionally gripping first hand report. During Katrina, an old college buddy of mine (Steve Goodman) ended up holed up in his church, which he had to safeguard from looters with his shotgun. Seeing the potential for the landfall of another Cat 3-5 was gut wrenching to wat...

OK, Damon; was ole lady Steinberg all of 22 or 23? Did you write that? Have to admit I paid more attention to the text than the photos, but both were most enjoyable. John, Tragically, it is all directly from own befuddled musings. However, your nuanced inquiry suggests having possession of the head...

Den--Thanks! You are always so kind in your replies to these reports. There is no doubt in my mind that you are a class act in person as well. Biff--That old junk stopped me dead in my tracks and caused me to spend a night in in Nevada City, MT in a place I had not expected to remain. Being seduced ...

I found the neatest gadget

My trusty number 5 or 6 Timex Ironman watch broke today. I usually get 2-3 years out of them and treat them like disposables. They change the styles every few years, but the buttonology and features usually stay the same and I don't have to "learn" a new watch. I think it is an Emerson say...

Re: I was able to get my riding buddy back into the saddle!

Den, The Bandit is a great bike--light, plenty of power, great riding position, bit of wind protection but not too much, and easy to maintain. IN terms of quality, it is on the other end of the spectrum from the BMW. That being said, I think BMW quality IMHO is head and shoulders above other bikes. ...

Re: Top High Mileage rides

I would humbly suggest a mechanically solid 1970's Honda CB 500-750cc or a late '70-early '80s airhead. No museum pieces but reliable buggers that are functional and retro-cool. Even duck taped accessories are considered cool in some circles and circumstances if you take it to the Rat Bike route. I ...

I was able to get my riding buddy back into the saddle!

After laying off of her feet for about six weeks now, since her surgery, my best buddy and riddingpartner saddled up for a few quick miles on some local mountain roads. Plus, I think she was tired of seeing me riding her bike every chance I could take. First we did a quick warmup trip to the top of ...

Ves, Sorry to hear about the early demise of such a great bike, but happy to hear that you are okay. The up side is that this accident makes you a motorcycle widower and you can choose another one without feeling like you are cheating on the Roc. When you are feeling up to it, I recommend test drivi...
