Re: Probable stick coil failure on '05 R1150RT
Good to know.....BMW says every year. The last two times I did the deed - after two years - the fluid was clear as new. But.... the bike spent a good deal of time in Colorado where it's dry. Now I'm in humid St.Louis; that's why I asked. I won't worry if I go 2 1/2 or even three years. This procedur...

I'm impressed...certainly thorough maintenance. You checked all the boxes. I am curious about the abs service. How did the brake fluid look - clear or colored ? How long was it in there ?

Re: What's on the To Do list?
Amazing to admit, my 20044 R1150R needs no further modifications. Ideally, it could be lighter and the seat a bit lower but I'm not willing to change the nature of the beast. Also...I'm caught up on maintenance. Did the always joyful wizzy brake fluid change in June. FWIW after 2 years the fluid was...

Battery Access and Starter Problem Resource
The subject is a 2004 R1150R. Have any of you creative fellows found a way to access the battery without removing the tank? Maybe prop it just enough? For now, all I need is to disconnect the ground. There was no sound from the starter during the first attempt - even though it turned over strongly o...

Glad to see you back in action. I wonder if you find yourself comparing R to RT, you don't end up selling the big boat. The R1150R is heavy enough. As to being mystified....something must be in the air....I've never had so much trouble understanding what people say and do.

I'm happy I installed speed bleeders - have them front, rear and clutch. I need all the help I can get.

Whizzy Maintenance Schedule
Glad the board is up again. I posted this at MOA; didn't get much response. See what happens here. One of the joys of owning my 2004 R1150R ABS is changing the brake fluid - especially since I swore I'd no longer do pain in the cola/dupa work. The job has been done three times, at two year intervals...

Re: Hyperpro Shocks
Some riders choose to upgrade from the original shocks early on; thus, they have the originals laying around. On my last bike (KlR) I located and purchased one of these, with few miles. I decided to change the stock spring for a beefier version. I was satisfied with the results. The cost was a small ...

I second looking to see if the throttle cables are in the little cups. I'm told it's usually the one on the right that isn't all the way in.

Re: Hyperpro Shocks
You mentioned the bike rides firmer. Do the shocks come with stiffer springs ? Also...does this modification raise or lower the bike ?

Welnuts...not to be confused with walnuts....good to know. I'm hoping that every time I take the tank on and off, I'll reduce my time in purgatory.

Re: Do we need more users?
R riders are a specific breed. Personally speaking, I wouldn't have a RT or GS. ( Nothing against adventure bikes, I had a klr for years and rode it all over the US, Mexico and a bit of Canada - just don't like the Beemer variety. ) However...most issues are with what Rs share with RTs and GSs. I ga...

Re: Sleeping Beauty Battery ?
Wires from the battery terminals meet at a SAE connector. That's where I plug in my solar charger and take voltage ( and amp ) readings. BTW, as of late yesterday, battery read in the high 13s. It's just warm enough here in St Louis for a ride - thinking of taking her for a spin.

Sleeping Beauty Battery ?
Buried under the tank of my 2004 R1150R, sits an Odyssey Extreme battery; it's a year and a few months old. I keep it connected to a solar charger which usually maintains it over 13 volts. The bike sat for 2 or 3 weeks. Yesterday I took a reading with my multi-meter. Shock !! The meter read 5.4 V. I...

Re: What's next for your 1150?
OK...I've recently moved from Colorado to St.Louis MO. ( For those that know the area...my apartment is very close to where I-55 and Arsenal meet.) My current task is for me and my 2004 to continue getting acquainted with our new surroundings. I was surprised to experience fun twisties not that far ...

Re: Parasitic Drain
Did the deed. Mrclubike's diagram, with instructions, was very useful toward understanding the cure. I decided to go with Roger 04 rt's surgical solution - as pictured in the excellent photo he provided; it seemed simpler as there was no need to dig around in the wiring. One problem...I'm not a surg...

Wow....Here in Colorado there's much more gravel than I encountered back east - went down a few times before I figured that out. Bad luck and you seem like such a nice guy. I know that's your forum personality; it's very possible that in real life you're difficult. At least a clean break is said to ...

Lucky you, Hyja1. In my case there was some German version of red Loctite holding it together....needed the help of a portable vise.

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder
I assumed everyone changed the clutch fluid when you did the brake bleed. In my mind it wan't an option. Mine looked clean the two times I did the deed; the fluid was in there around two years..Last time I changed to the speed bleeder. The YouTube video guy did it with every thing apart and the line...

Re: Getting better every time I ride it
Some don't like the look of the stock front fender. I'm told it's designed to channel the wind - in order to plant the front end at speed. Is that right ?
