FS: Black naked 2004 R1150r 32,500 miles, Alexandria Virginia

More pictures upon request Bike is steady at high speeds, rain, and non-sticking snow. I no longer need to commute daily during the winter time so I don't need the bike anymore. Bike has the following: Outer battery access terminals (otherwise you'd be lifting the gas tank just to jump the bike) For...

Re: Access to battery terminals? USB outlet wiring & mounting.

You should have a power plug by the starter on the left side. It shouldn't be very difficult to make a plug in power terminal. I don't believe that is stock. I had to have my access plug put in. Removing the tank isn't that bad as long as it's not for purposes of charging or jumping the bike. For t...

Re: Advice please! On 2004 R1150R

Agree with all the praises above on reliability. Disagree that it's too powerful to be a starter bike. The exact same model was my starter bike. IMHO the smoothness of the throttle is much easier to handle than the jerkiness of other bikes. I think price-wise you should be able to do better. Look at...

Replacement parts for R1200C still being made?

I'm considering an R1200C since I prefer the cruiser style look and posture but I'm hearing that, for one, the gas tank is irreplaceable.
Obviously I don't want to be at the mercy of eBay for parts so is the gas tank unavailability the case and what other parts are no longer being made for the R1200C?

Re: How to determine which hose goes to which port when replacing gas tank?

One is a drain line from the rim around the gas cap and the other is a vapor line from the charcoal canister. Blow on one of the tubes with the gas cap open and feel for air escaping from the small drain hole in the filler's rim. That tube just drains to the ground. And if you then seal the gas cap...

How to determine which hose goes to which port when replacing gas tank?

The gas lines are easy since one goes one direction, the other goes the opposite direction.
However there are two hoses that just slide onto adapters and I forgot to notate which came from which on the gas tank.
Is there any way to determine this? I don't even know what those hoses are :-o

Cycle gear says all snell helmets have same impact absorption

I bought my RPHA 10 PRO (and HJC product) because it had the most peripheral vision. I'm curious to know if there's a shock absorbency rating on helmets? I know on boxing headgears, the top ten brand uses bayflex padding which is far more absorbent than other brands. Is cycle gear correct in that al...

Waterproof pants that aren't overpants

Need a pair of riding pants that are waterproof that look somewhat presentable in a social setting. I don't want to have to remove waterproof overpants and stow them away, I just want to jump off the bike and go in. I found this which I think is a great idea but $550 is way out of the budget: https:...

Re: How do you get your bike to start in the teens?

I loosened the idle adjustment screws to facilitate 1200rpm idling (previously was idling ~7/800) That is not the recommended procedure for correcting a bad idle. Those screws are set at the factory and should never be adjusted. The correct way to adjust the idle is by adjusting the Big Brass Air B...

Re: How do you get your bike to start in the teens?

I'd been putting the bike on the tinder all night and then throttling down and holding it in the AM for a couple minutes until the idling was steady. Then putting on my gear, disconnecting the tinder, etc. I read that these bikes do not need to warm up but can just fire up and off ya go. I loosened ...

Re: Parking Outside

FWIW the indy shop owner that's maintained my bike said you can leave it in the rain, the snow, the sun, you can't kill this bike.

It's what I've been doing, it's convenient, and no adverse effects. If the paint goes bad I'll just respray it.

Re: BMW waterproof gear-anybody use it?

do NOT trust your phone to the pockets in a downpour[/img] I stuff a plastic grocery bag in the seat trunk, wrap my phone and wallet in it and then stick it in a (waterproof) gear pocket. For cold, I use tourmaster stuff. If it's warm, I'll use the JR liner on top and a pair of cheap plastic campin...

Re: Paint on gas tank fragile and easily scratched.

I just did a truck in flat black. Not to mention the difficulty in being able to spray evenly as compared with conventional paint, the flat/matte finishes, especially single stage (no clear cost), almost feel as if you could scratch them off with your fingernail. The truck looks horrible, but hey it...

I wear a back brace, neck brace, helmet, leave plenty of space, and avoid riding when there's ice on the roads.
