Re: Front brake lines

Thanks for the info Rob, I'm sure I'm going to find it useful soon enough.

Re: Need a bigger tank!

That may be, the imperial gallons and US gallon difference could be it. However, I distinctly remember putting more fuel into my R850 than I have with the R1100. So, back to the original question of finding a source for a bigger tank. Anyone? Retrofit a R1100GS tank? - moving the oil coolers is the...

Re: Need a bigger tank!

How much fuel you put in depends on how much fuel is already in the tank. How do you determine when you need fuel? I reset my trip meter when fueling. When I hear the fuel pump whine and run out, lean the bike over to the right and head for a gas station. I watch the odometer based upon prior known...

Re: Need a bigger tank!

There are two R bike gas tanks, but yes, only one p/n from what I gather. My 850R had the full-size tank for a regular capacity of about 5.3 gal when I filled it but this 1100R only gets to about 4.8 when I fill it to the same level. The bikes with the ABS brakes have the smaller capacity tank to le...

Need a bigger tank!

Apparently this new R1100R has the smaller, abs gas tank. Since it's a non-abs bike, I am less than happy with the more limited range. I see that a couple folks have fitted GS gas tanks and some other composite monsters that have gone out of production. So what is currently available to get me a cou...

Re: Overhauling Shocks

I have not. I have worked on hydraulic/pneumatic suspension systems on aircraft and in industrial assembly line work but wouldn't want to tackle a "non-rebuildable" shock. There is a place that I heard does rebuild the stock units, but I haven't contacted them yet. Try Lindeman Engineering...

Re: new bike / shocks / nose dive?

Just curious, how do you know it bottomed out? Have you tied a zip tie around one of the chromed fork tubes and seen that it actually was pushed up to the top?

Re: new bike / shocks / nose dive?

The front end design counteracts dive while braking. However, it seems to increase dive when the throttle is chopped. If you are smooth letting off the throttle it won't dive like that. But, bottoming out is not normal. The stock shocks start losing damping about 20k miles, not sure how long the spr...

New guy introductions

New guy saying hi, long time BMW guy here. Grew up with the R75/5, then an R850R and now have an R1100R. Love those oilheads! http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/Obranquelinho/Mobile%20Uploads/20160729_174638-1.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y101/Obranquelinho/Mobile%20Uploads/20160726_12314...
