Re: ABS Failure

Hi Rooster, I removed the abs completely on my 2003 E80 Rockster as I just did not trust or like the way it worked although it functioned exactly as it should. Total cost was $7.00 to get a short "U" shaped brakeline to bridge the loop that used to go to and from the abs unit. The rear sen...

Re: Clutch spline destruction

If you go to previous page i quoted all the (german) details from the ebay listing. At present it does not look like there is a current listing for the shaft. There should however be enough info there to track the guy down, possibly on the german ebay site and see when his next batch may be due. Hop...

Re: Clutch spline destruction

Pleased to report my E80 is now back together and running even smoother than before, probable due to the absence of the worn out splines. No parts left over either! Total cost for parts and consumables was about $1300 Cdn but I replaced all seals and the clutch slave while I was in there. I estimate...

Re: Clutch spline destruction

OK, gearbox and drive housing successfully removed, had to pop the driveshaft out as it remained on the output shaft. I can see no circlip that matchws the groove on the shaft however. ????? New clutch is installed, I used the the new input shaft and the pushrod to centre it, looks good to me! Next ...

Re: Clutch spline destruction

Neu hergestellte Antriebswelle entspricht 23217651172 (zu Vergleichszwecken). Wurde aber abgeändert und verstärkt. Passgenau und made in Germany. This is the german description. Translated it mentions longer splines, better hardening and heat treatment and the seller is highly rated. Die Nachfrage w...

Re: Clutch spline destruction

After much searching I found that the bmw input shaft is back ordered indefinitely from bmw. There is a guy in British Columbia who makes improvd replacement shafts - he thinks they are worth $1250 and is soliciting orders. Sorry but that is just not acceptable to me. After much research and searchi...

Re: Clutch spline destruction

Back from Barcelona and time to get stuck in. The parts i ordered had come in including clutch disc, slave cyl, asst bearing and seals and a tube of grease that apparently contains a mixture of gold and diamonds!. Total damage was $750 cdn. Made up a small support trolley and eased off the housing a...

Re: Clutch spline destruction

About 3 hours in, subframe is up and I am ready to remove the drive train. I swear Bmw has shares in a zip tie distributor, the garage floor was littered with the buggers!.. All in all, not as complicated as i expected. I have ordered the modified clutch hub, output shaft, slave cylinder and various...

Clutch spline destruction

Well, At 70,000km on a highway near Gooderham Ontario, I lost all drive and heard and felt the dreaded crunch. So my beloved E80 Rockster is waiting for a bunch of parts to arrive. I plan on replacing the clutch hub, plate and slave cylinder and all seals etc while i am in there. With the great info...

Re: dual sport tires

Just installed a set of the new Avon Trailrider tires on my E80 Rockster, First impressions are positive, on road they are planted and instil confidence. On gravel and dirt they track and hook up well.

Re: Mystery speed sensor

I can confirm that my 2003 Rockster E80 has the speedo signal from the rear wheel only . During my recent abs/servo removal procedure I have actually removed the abs sensor ring from the front wheel - speedometer works perfectly. Very happy with the simplified braking system after a spirited ride on...

Re: IABS Removal

The speed signal is generated by by the abs ring on the rear wheel, I left this in place although I did remove the ring on the front end. I just used washers to retain the spacing for this. I removed the brain module from the IABS unit and reused this after fabbing up a simple aluminum cover to seal...

Re: IABS Removal

I was having a problem removing the stock levers from their perches. I did eventually figure it out and now have two very fancy front levers, they fold and look like the expensive cnc ones. Follow up on the iabs removal. Brakes are excellent now, more feel and feedback and all other systems are work...

IABS Removal

Thanks to the information and support from this forum I have removed the servo brakes from my Rockster E 80..Everything works as it should and the local mechanic made up a short bypass loop using the old fittings and a 6" piece of copper brakeline. If anyone needs a perfectly good servo please ...
