Re: Major Failure Poll
02 R1150R. 37,000 miles. No major failures. A number of irritating minor failures - zip/cable ties under headstock chewed through wiring. Fuel connectors leaked. Oil sight glass leaked. Shaft drive diff/bevel box leaking. Apart from that it's been fine BUT, given the age and mileage I'm just waiting...

Re: Deja vu. Splines again.
Mine's a 2002 R1150R. 37,000 miles and I'm just waiting for my clutch/transmission to fail. We've had this discussion before. Should I get rid now or hang on to the bike and wait for the inevitable? Or is it inevitable? Am I being too pessimistic? Anyone out there got reliable figures on just how ma...

Re: SHAFT DRIVE OIL LEAK
Noted guys. Thanks for your collective wisdom.
Having cleaned up the back end I've been monitoring it carefully over the last few days and it appears to have stopped. Will keep an eye on the bevel box oil level. Fingers crossed.

Re: SHAFT DRIVE OIL LEAK
It's a weep not a drip.
Is it the gear oil in the bevel box, or is it coming from the engine end and seeping down the shaft?
Have contacted my favourite police bike mechanic. Hopefully he can sort it with me having to remortgage the house or sell a child.

SHAFT DRIVE OIL LEAK
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- R1150R, 2002. 35k miles. Oil is leaking from underneath the rear swingarm (paralever?) at the point where there's a rubber gaiter/bellows/sleeve thing which connects the swingarm to the bevel drive housing at the back. ...

MACX,
Tried your link to look at your pictures/drawings. All I got was endless pop-ups and pages of advertising. Not a picture in sight.

Blimey. Sorry to hear about your 'off'. Glad your injuries were not worse.
Mine's an 02 1150R with 35k on the clock. Gearbox and transmission have been fine.
I too, would be interested in the result.

Re: Head removal adventure
Fascinating stuff and wonderful pix.
I'd love to have a go at that sort of work but in 40+ years of motorcycling I've discovered I'm quite good at taking things apart. Lousy at putting them back together. I wish I had a fraction of your skills and knowledge.
Cheers

Re: RIDER DOWN - my son has just had his first crash
He appears to have learned his lesson.
He's into replica guns (Airsoft?) and buys/sells them on an internet forum.
He's just traded one of his prized toy guns for a full set of motorcycle leathers!....and he's worn them on the bike on his last three rides. Result.

Pedal cyclists - just plain crazy.
God gave man the ingenuity to invent the internal combustion engine. Therefore, I consider it a holy thing to do, to take advantage of this and ride my MOTORcycle whenever I can.

Re: OIL SIGHT GLASS LEAKING
There are several types of metallized epoxies that can be applied to clean aluminum and then tooled to reform the sealing surface. One such product I've recently used on marine jets is called Bel Zona, and is avaialble in varying hardnesses, up to and including one that is so hard it can barely be ...

Re: RIDER DOWN - my son has just had his first crash
Thanks. Ironically, we had told him to put his leathers (pants) on just before he left but he said he didn't want to because the weather is very mild here this evening and he was only nipping out to see his girlfriend, who lives about 6 miles away. So he went out in denims and his main injuries are ...

RIDER DOWN - my son has just had his first crash
My boy came off his bike this evening. Dazzled by oncoming car on main beam he ran wide on a bend, clipped the kerb and down he went. He's got some lovely gravel rash on both his knees. Wrist is hurting and general bumps and bruises. All shook up, as Elvis would say. Ambulance crew were fantastic, a...

Mine's got a power socket down by my left foot (into which I plug my battery charger), but nothing on the dash or handlebars.

Doug,

Is it worth someone from UK joining the members section?
I'm never going to buy or sell anything from US to UK or vice versa.
So, what would my $25 get me?
Who is Pat and what mysteries are hidden in there?
