Re: RIDING NAKED ... but flexible
My two cents...Riding Naked and loving it! +1 to that. I have been riding behind a Parabellum Scout fairing w/ 20" wind screen for the past 16 months. Took it off two days ago to have it painted along with my system case lids (gloss black w/ clear coat) as it has acquired a few dings along the...

Re: Extended Warranty (US BMW-Motorad)
Here is the coverage provided by Western (as per my dealer, who emailed this to me), quoted at $677 for three additional years, no deductible, and fully transferrable. My dealer accepts Western claims "routinely" and has no knowledge of any BMW-based extended warranty product that may be f...

Re: Bill Mayer saddle reviews for R12R
I had my stock saddle rebuilt by Bill Mayer in January but hadn't had an opportunity to do more than 100-200 miles at a time until last month. Just got back from a 2500 mile trip up the coast to Portland; lots of twisties on highways 1 and 101 plus one 400 mile slab slog on I5 from SF to LA on the l...

Re: Air filter access
Thank You RonR. For all you R1200R riders. No need to remove the battery or the gas tank. I just did mine, and it's as simple as RonR posted. Remove the side cover, undo the two clips holding the snorkle and the air filter is staring at you in your face. I can not believe where this post headed. Al...

Re: Air filter access
The answer is neither. Following the instructions in the factory service manual dvd, I removed the side cover, the side panel and snorkle ("air pipe" in BMW-speak) and, with a little persuasion, removed and replaced the filter.Cosmic-Rider wrote: Do I need to remove the battery? Anybody who says that the bike they just bought is the last bike they will ever buy is kidding themselves. Or maybe their SOs.

Re: Looking for torque data
Does anyone know of a TORQUE DATA CHART for the R1200's anywhere out there? I ride a "07 R1200R and would like to find a general torque chart which covers the entire bike. I have extracted all of the torque tables from the factory service manual dvd and created a .pdf for my own use...so I'd h...

Re: New final drive fluid quantity
I believe the 2009 models have the drain plug in the proper position so you don't need to drop the final drive just to drain the fluid. I haven't looked closely enough at an '09 to see that change, but I would recommend dropping the the FD occasionally anyway. When I changed FD fluid while doing th...

Re: Mirror upgrade? Bar end mirror?
Looking into changing my mirrors for 1) cleaner look and 2) better visibility behind me as I commute in heavy "stop and go" traffic daily...I'm leaning toward a good quality convex lens to give me a wider view without image distortion. After I trashed the glass in my bar-end Wunderlich mi...

Re: What luggage rack is this?
So there is a set of luggage mounts that do the bags only and then a different set (mine) that mounts the bags and a place for a topcase? And if I order the BMW saddlebags do they come with the lower mount?... I see something called Sport Cases on the BMW website but they don't mention a fitment fo...

Re: POS Alert!
Interesting. I completed a valve adjsutment and didn't use any tools to remove the coil. If I remember correctly I removed the valve cover with the coil intact. After the valve cover was removed, I removed (I think, it's been a while) the coil. At the completion of the job I installed the valve cov...

POS Alert!
This topic will probably be of most interest to those who, like me, are just now learning to do their own R12R maintenance. Those who are old hands at this may have had this specific experience, maybe not. I searched the forum for the subject but didn't find any discussion of it. In your BMW tool ki...

Re: $350 rear tire?
When I recently needed to replace my rear tire, I got a quote from my stealer. Michelin Pilot Road (not Road 2, in order to match my front that is relatively new) was quoted at $205, $223.96 w/ tax. Mounting and balance, if you buy from them: $39 + shop materials (weights?) + tire disposal. The moun...

Re: Anybody removed the "R1200R" letters on the tank?
Methinks a little heat from a blow dryer will soften the adhesive enough to peel it off. Exactly right. A little slow application of warm air from a hair dryer will soften the letters and/or stripes. Then I used my thumb nail to peel them off and a little Goo Gone to remove any residual stickiness....

I heard about this company for a few years and finallly found them. BMW Motorcycle of Lynchburg Best prices for OEM parts K1200R mirror 51-16-7-685-505 $64.17 BMW's list price is $67.88 for a single mirror. I assume the above is for a single? Chicago BMW's price with their 20% discount is $54.30.
