Back here + on a Boxer: feels like coming home

A boxer (and this forum) is quite like Pasta Carbonara or good 'Cue – after you didn't have it for a while, you realize how much you missed it. So after my BMW hiatus on a board Triumph Tiger 800xc for a few years (1150 R before that), since Sunday I'm back aboard with a Scrambler. A 5mos-old used o...

Re: Your opinion on what to offer for a 5 mo old Scrambler

Bought it ;-)

And got a great deal to boot; 20% under new: 370 mi, 5 mos old, ASC, heated grips and spoked rims (the latter I probably wouldn't have bothered with had I bought new). Couldn't find any glaring problem, so I rode her home Sunday.

Your opinion on what to offer for a 5 mo old Scrambler

Assuming that there is a loss of value of 40-50% after 3-4 years for bikes, like mentioned elsewhere on this board, what would you assume the depreciation is after the first five months (though with under 400 miles)? I've seen my first used Scrambler for sale, and I'm a bit at a loss how to price my...

Re: Can I come back? Even on a scrambler?

Haven't ridden a Goose yet and plenty of others for that matter – but I have yet to find an engine I like as much as the boxers. And still regret somehow having sold my 1150 R. In three years with the Tiger I haven't been offroad once, though on gravel/dirt/forest roads. For that, it sounds like the...

Re: Can I come back? Even on a scrambler?

My take-away from a dealer visit yesterday: - The expect the scrambler sometime mid-September. - One customer bought it sight unseen, price unknown. Foolish or brave or? - Seems also that NineT sales have slacked because the scrambler was announced so early, potential buyers went into wait-and-see p...

Re: Can I come back? Even on a scrambler?

I'd agree – coming from an 1150R I wouldn't switch. Coming from another bike – or hopefully soon bikeless after a great sale – it's very interesting. I found quite a few "first-ride" articles last night in the German-speaking press, since the European press intro took place in the Alps nea...

Can I come back? Even on a scrambler?

Hi all, a few of you quipped when I sold my 1150R three years ago: "you may be back". Well... While the problems with my R mounted beyond what CycleRob (bless his endless patience and friendliness) and others could help me with, and while my patience with things going wrong ran out (which ...

Re: Thank you all so much, and Goodbye

I know I'll miss the R. But funds are not unlimited, and neither is space.

But you have a good point, agreed. I may turn into a semi-lurker then ;->

Re: Thank you all so much, and Goodbye

Thanks man! I rode both bikes around the block last night back to back. Fun. The Triumph is an interesting animal; a triple tuned for mid-range torque, still revving quite a bit higher. Sounds very polite, but then, after listening to a sweet Remus for seven years, nothing sounds good (and that can ...

Re: required reading from a bmw mechanic

Sadly, BMW has lost the hard-earned, well deserved accolades regarding reliability. Besides the reasons given above I would like to elaborate a bit on the cause of this matter. Starting in 1999 the BMW motorcycle division was, for the first time ever, being run by staff of the BMW car division. The...

Thank you all so much, and Goodbye

After seven years on an 1150R, I decided to change bikes. My wife wants to get back into dirt-bikes, so the boxer is for sale, and I bought a Triumph Tiger 800 XC. The XC, only slightly used and still under warranty for another 14 months, came to me like nearly all of my bikes including the 1150, in...

Thanks – but that still doesn't answer exactly my question about the culprit. Do these things ever go boink?

Re: fuel leak

A) If you didn't it know yet, now you do: What CycleRob says is Gospel to us. Not because he says so, but because he is one of the most helpful, nicest and knowledgeable guys you'll ever meet, on a forum or in real life. If he told me to sand down my headlight and square my tires, I would start befo...

Clock slow (10-15 min/h)

All of a sudden, my R's clock (2004, same year as the the bike) is running slow – at the least 10 to 15 min per hour. That means every time I ride I cringe: setting the darn thing before I take off, and setting it during rides too (generally, day rides under 10 minutes feel too short for me, and tha...

Raleigh/Triangle area anyone?

My wife and I (she's from PA, me from Munich) are pretty much over the South Florida thing and consider relocating to NC. We'll do an exploratory trip in two weeks, unfortunately by car, staying with relatives in Winston-Salem, but will concentrate on the Raleigh and Triangle areas. I'd love to hear...

Re: Experience w/ starters from EuroMotoElectrics?

Plug for EuroMotoElectrics: Excellent! S/h included in $189, fast, friendly, with instructions and a ballpoint pen  I exchanged the starter hot (I know, but a) I was cautious and b) I did sleep in a Holiday Inn the night before) and couldn't be happier with them.

Re: Experience w/ starters from EuroMotoElectrics?

Thanks! Euromoto has them for $189 on their site, and a quick web search didn't reveal any better price than that.

Experience w/ starters from EuroMotoElectrics?

After I awoke from sticker-shock coma - my starter's on the way out; quote is $401 plus labour - I went pronto on this board. Which came to the rescue, as often before. Thanks for your starter replacement recommendations, and to Cyclerob for his post of how not to remove it (namely hot). It seems se...
