Re: Wind Screens
If you can find a used Aeroflow, get one. They are the gold standard. Great protection and no buffeting. I can ride with my face shield up and have no wind in my face. Aeroflow doesn't make the mounts any more, but if you can find a used mount, Aeroflow may still have some windscreens for 1150R. I c...

repost: modifying my side stand for lower shocks?
Hello, I mistakenly posted this on the R1200R forum, so here it goes on the 1150 site. In the next few weeks, I'll be getting some new Wilbers that will lower my 2004 R1150R by about 30 cm. I need to find a welder who can modify the side stand and hopefully the center stand to accommodate the new he...

Side stand mods after lowering my R1150R
Hello In the next few weeks, I'll be getting some new Wilbers that will lower my 2004 R1150R by about 30 cm. I need to find a welder who can modify the side stand and hopefully the center stand to accommodate the new height. Not sure I will be able to find a bike-savvy welder so if any of you folks ...

Re: S1000R Test Drive
Hate to hijack the thread, but can anyone point me toward info on the 1150R wiring harness recall that MBWPA referenced in his post? I have a 2004, and haven't heard of the recall.

changing out a turn signal stalk
Broke off my right front turn-signal stalk in a garage tip-over. Have a replacement coming but unsure on how to take off the old one and install the new. It's part number 63132306318 on this page http://www.ascycles.com/Illustrated_catalog2/MicroList.aspx?id=51768&catID=&catname=&bindNam...

CHP leaves BMW, goes back to H-Ds
Ran into a California Highway Patrol officer at a gas station riding a new Harley. He said the CHP is moving back to Harley-Davidson after years with BMW. He said most of his fellow officers prefer the BMW but they were just too expensive over the life of the bike. He said that with maintenance, eac...

Re: engine cutting out
After a new fuel filter, new battery and many hundreds of dollars in diagnostic help from mechanic, it turned out to be a frayed wire to the kill switch. A lingering result of tight zip ties, that were loosened 17,000 miles ago. Mechanic said it was hard to diagnose, because when you jiggled the wir...

Re: engine cutting out
Update -- thought maybe the Seafoam would help the cutting out problem, but it did it again this morning. After about one-third of a mile, engine cut out, caught briefly, cut out, caught again, then it was fine. It definitely feels like a fuel problem, and i wonder if there is any way that some air ...

Re: engine cutting out
Thanks for the info. My mechanic said to check for a venting problem, just open the gas cap after you have been riding a while and if it sucks air in, that means it is not venting correctly. I did that, and there was no sound of air traveling. I saw him check the side stand switch by putting it down...

Re: engine cutting out
I think my mechanic checked side stand switch already.
Any guidance on how to clear the gas tank vents? Not even sure where they are.
Do you have to remove the tank?

Re: engine cutting out
I asked my mechanic about coils, and he said bad coils make the bike idle roughly, and it idles very smoothly. As far as opening gas cap, would would that tell me? Right now, after the engine dies, it starts right up. If I opened the gas cap, the closed it and it started right up, not sure I would k...

engine cutting out
I have a 2004 r1150r with 17,800 miles on it. Two days ago, after riding about a mile the power briefly cut out, bam-bam- like it was a fuel starvation issue, but then resumed running normally. I suspect I had about 1 gallon left in the tank at the time. I took the next freeway exit, and when pullin...

Re: R1100R Aero Flow aerogards
I have them on my R1150 -- they look funky but really channel air away and keep it from coming up behind the wind screen.

Re: Grinding vibration on left turns
TiPirate - thanks for the suggestions. Will be hard to recreate binding on center stand because it only seems to happen when bike is turning left or right, but I will check for play. I've had what sounds like very light rubbing from front wheel (like disk pads are touching disks momentarily) since I...

Re: Grinding vibration on left turns
Just went out to try the different scenarios . Vibration is most pronounced at low wheel speed, 10-15 mph. Much less vibration at 25, which is fastest I got it for test. The vibration also now seems same, whether going left or right. Engine vibration masks turning vibration, so can't tell what happe...

Grinding vibration on left turns
Lately I've been sensing a slight grinding vibration in slow left turns, but it really became apparent yesterday when I was coasting in neutral down a gentle incline and was making shallow S turns. With bike just idling, there was less engine vibration to mask the grinding. Vibration is subtle but d...
