Re: Oil for beginners
I know a few riders out there don't know this about boxer engines. If this is too basic just say so. When you park a motorcycle that has a boxer engine, you have to park it on the center stand (if possible). Otherwise the left head fills up with oil. Then when you start it up, it burns oil. So if yo...

spinning wheel in neutral
So I recently noticed that my rear wheel is slowly spinning while in neutral. Recently I put on a new final drive unit that has a lower gear ratio than is normal for the R1150 rockster. That is about the same time I noticed this spinning. Is my clutch too tight, or is there a failure going on?

The pot was just a regular backpacking mess kit. We are both extremely poor college students, so we just use whatever we can.

I'm not sure what kind of stove it is, it was my buddies. I will have to shooot him an email. It worked very well though, and it was very compact and durable. He has had it for atleast 8 years now, and it has been used very often.

Re: Grandstaircase Escalante
I don't recommend taking the rockster off road. The dirt it can handle fine, but any sand is very tricky. A lot of weight is on that front wheel.Beaze wrote:How did the Rockster handle on the dirt roads? That looks like it was a great ride!

Re: Worn FD bearings replaced, it's just my turn.
hey Boxer thanxs for the great post. I am going to be replacing my final drive unit here in a couple days. I am waiting for a heat gun to arrive that I ordered so that I can get that 14mm bolt out. You said that you didn't apply the normal specs when replaceing that bolt. What did you torque it to i...

Re: Fueling Up Rant!
Are you using California gas pumps? Cause I am!!! They are horrible! The spill-proof sleeve around the nozzle that works fine for cars, but makes it very difficult to fill up a bike.

Re: Urgent advice needed
What do you guys think of this FD unit? Will it work on my R1150R? Do any of you know how the gears will change? http://www.beemerboneyard.com/33112330382.html

Re: Urgent advice needed
There is several mm of side to side play on the rear tire. It's okay. I'm desensitized to the pain now. I just need a new FD.

Re: Urgent advice needed
The bike has nearly 23,000 miles on the bike. I have never changed the fluid. I got the bike around 10,000. The oil was leaking from the plug. There was a droplet forming on the plug when I inspected it.

Re: Urgent advice needed
Well I warmed it up and drained it...the sludge that came out of there appeared to be about a 1/2 to 1/2 mix of oil and fine puree'd steel.
I don't think the milky appearance was water. I think it was my final drive itself, ground to fine sand.

Urgent advice needed
Today I noticed the right edge of my rear tire was oily. It has been raining so much lately that I haven't thought twice of any moisture on my tire. It has dried up and there is still a ring of moisture on my right edge. I was suspicious so I took a look at my final drive and noticed it might have b...

Re: just finished my valves and TB sync
I used that same document to walk me through. I used a combination of that document and my Clymer guide. I however didn't use the instrument indicated in the TBS4D. I used a normal manometer. So I'm sure those instructions would work better if you use the same instrument.

Re: just finished my valves and TB sync
Yeah I'm not sure either. I have to say that over all the bike is running much better than before, so I guess I'm not so worried about the "engine brake." I will have to have somebody else take a ride and see what they think about how fast the RPMs drop off. Over all I think I'm fine with ...
