Re: Ohlins Shock Question
Yes,I replaced the spring after I tried lubricating contact points and replaced the bushings at the top of the shock where the threaded stem passes through the frame. None of those things helped. I bought the spring from a dealer. The yellow coating on the original spring had come off at the end of ...

Ohlins Shock Question
I have ohlins shocks front and rear on an R1100R. The front shock started making a noise similar to a spring squeaking. On a recent ride I noticed the noise is becoming more noticeable. It's most noticeable when putting the bike on and off the centerstand (I think this is due to the shock extending ...

Re: Self-Cancelling Turn Signal Relay
I know it's a lot of fuss, but at the same time I find it interesting. Actually it would have been a whole lot easier if BMW would have provided self cancelling signals on all their bikes like most other manufacturers do. I suspected that there was a way to rig the existing relay and that someone ha...

Re: Self-Cancelling Turn Signal Relay
I wonder if you could introduce a voltage signal on the pin that would normally be connected to the speedo and have the R1100S relay work on an R1100R or other non-cancelling systems. It would be nice to know what that voltage is on an R1100S.

Re: Self-Cancelling Turn Signal Relay
Thanks Oliver for the information. When you said "when standing = non-self-cancelling and when driving = self-cancelling after about 6-7 seconds", would it be a fair assumtion to make that in order for the relay to work when driving that it must be picking up an electrical signal from some...

Self-Cancelling Turn Signal Relay
I know the R1100R doesn't have self-cancelling turn signals, but I've heard that the R1100S does. First, is it true that the R1100S has self-cancelling signals? And secondly, if it is, will the flasher relay from an R1100S work in a R1100R as a self-cancelling system; or is there more to it? I'm awa...

Front Brake Master Cylinder
I was going to post this in the R1100R section, but it doesn't get as much traffic as here and this does discuss R1150R parts. I'm in need of a front brake master cylinder for my R1100R. I rebuilt it a few years ago and I recently noticed that it has started to leak again. I'd rather replace it at t...

Throttle Cable Question for 95 R1100R
I would like to convert my 95 R1100R old style throttle cable to the newer dual cable setup used on later R1100R models. My question is concerning the throttle cable control box that is located under the battery box on the newer models. What is the box attached to? Is it attached to the underside of...

Re: R1100R Headlight
For those that might want to know....it seems the early painted headlight buckets were approximately 7 inches in diameter, while the later chromed buckets were around 8 inches. I thought about switching out my painted bucket for a chrome one, but it looks like that might not happen. I guess I can al...

R1100R Headlight
Is the painted headlight found on the earlier R1100R the same diameter as the later chrome headlight?

Re: Opinions on Tires for R1100R - and tire pressure
Has anyone tried a 170/60 18 on the rear? I noticed Shinko has that size in their Podium tire.

Re: What caused the engine to seize?
The fact that everything was normal up to the point that you tried to restart the bike, makes me thing it may have something to do with the starter or what it engages with. The starter is the first mechanical thing to come into play and that is where I'd start. Remember, do the easy things first. Is...

Re: Opinion of Rockster
Thanks for all the great feedback. I'm located in Pa. You're right, the best way to know how the rock will fit me is to ride one. In addition to the S, I have an older R1100R and I find it uncomfortable on longer trips. That's why when I saw the the lower bars and flatter seat on the rock, I thought...

Opinion of Rockster
For the past couple years I've been riding an R1100S and recently started thinking about replacing it with a rockster. Early on in my ownership of the S, I replaced the low mounted clip on handlebars with handlebars from an rs and moved the whole arrangement above the top mount. It's made for a fair...

Wouldn't you know it...I like the looks of the silver/black and that's one they didn't import.

Rockster Paint Schemes?
I'm thinking about buying a rockster. The available bikes I've seen are either the burnt orange or citrus, which leads to my question concerning paint schemes: what other colors (paint schemes) where/are available in the US? Did the silver/black or white/black get imported?

Re: R1100R Uncomfortable Seat!!
I have the R1100R seat set to the highest position and still find myself sliding forward. When you say the R1100R seat is comfortable for you, are you doing long rides on it? I can ride for an hour or so, but after that I'm squirming all over the place to get comfortable. I notice that most after ma...

Re: R1100R Uncomfortable Seat!!
Must not be to many R1100R's out there; or everyone, except us few, must be very happy with their seat. BMW definitely made a change to the seat when they came out with the R1150R. Either it was just time for a design change or they heard it loud and clear from the few of us that couldn't find a com...

Re: R1100R Uncomfortable Seat!!
You're exactly right about the cramped area. There isn't enough room between the front and rear hump to be comfortable for any length of time. Have you, or do you know of anyone that has done any of the mods you mentioned? I would like to do something...either buy an after market seat that really wo...
