Re: Battery Tender

FWIW I have an O2 and retro-fitted the accessory socket. Easy to fit - finding the wire tucked up round the back end of the starter motor was a bit trickier but it is definitely there. I also connect up a tender (optimate) except for one period of 6 months when I had no power in the garage. Am still...

Re: New Horn Recommendation

I used the relay supplied with the horn and it has performed faultlessly for four years.

The difference may be because the relay is securely tucked away under the tank.

Also, the horn doesn't get used THAT often!

Re: Trunk for R1150R

Nice pics.

This is the Shad solution. Big box but a cheap option especially if you don't bother badging it.

+1 for Stiebel Nautilus Compact.

Installed mine under tank (non-ABS model). It is very loud.

Re: TB Sync Help!!

Forgot to add that I'd happily help do a valve adjust (not that I enjoy doing it) but the engine needs to be stone cold when you do it, so not really an option unless you can trailer the bike over.

Re: TB Sync Help!!

I have a hand-built manometer - built as per Cyclerob's excellent instructions.

I'm not a million miles away from you (Cutt Mill near Puttenham) - just off the Hog's Back a mile or so beyond the bottom end of the A331.

If you want to drop by sometime this week, email me at spare {at} wellsmail.com

Re: Trunk for R1150R

The Shad is a good choice IMO.

I went the same way and it has served me well. I added 2 BMW Roundels, one on the lid and the other rear face (they cost almost as much as the box!) but they look the part.

Re: new guy needs tires

Metzeler Z6 for me. 36psi front 42psi back. Confidence-inspiring grip - not necessarily a good thing ;) and 6k on rear so far with plenty left to go (as far as one can tell).

There's a tyre survey (poll) somewhere on site if you care to look for it.

Good luck.

Re: Castrol GTX

You might want to consider the Castrol Act-EVO GP 4T. It's now the recommended oil according to my local BMW dealer. Of course, you don't want to pay BMW prices but you can get it here for a reasonable (by UK standards) price: http://www.racelubricants.co.uk/product.asp?strParents=91&CAT_ID=92&a...

Re: Top Box and Panniers

I too have the BMW rails and side cases (not cheap in the UK unless you can pick them up on eBay). Also have a cheap 42 litre topbox (not BMW) but have badged it up with BMW roundels so that it looks the part even though the quality isn't quite there. The topbox I got from Getgeared.co.uk for about ...

Re: K1200S (or R) DIY maintenance

Thanks Doug. It's good to hear the experiences of someone who has owned both at the same time. My impression of the K (it was an KS not an KR) was that the power delivery was so smooth that it made the RR seems a bit agricultural. I also found the gerabox to be very smooth until it warmed up and the...

Re: K1200S (or R) DIY maintenance

Hi Doug - interesting post thanks.

Slightly off-topic, but how do you rate the K against the R? Any regrets about getting rid of the R?

Re: K1200S (or R) DIY maintenance

Thanks ChiTown but it's' the K not the R that I'm interested in - i.e. K1200S or K1200R.

I already own and maintain my R1150R and oilhead maintenance is already fully documented on the R1150R forum.

No one seems to do DIY maintenance, other than oil/filter change on the K bikes though.

K1200S (or R) DIY maintenance

Does anyone on this forum carry out their own servicing/maintenance on their K1200S/R?

How difficult is it? Is there a service schedule available or even a service manual/CD?

Thanks
