Re: New Naked
I have an '02 R1150R and a '13 R1200R...I love this genre of BMW. I just placed a deposit on the R Nine T. I suspect I will be tempted if the R1200R comes out with the water cooled motor, too. I don't think I can part with my R1150R because I would never be able to sell it for what it's worth to me....

Re: Iron Butt 50CC
Thank you for the suggestion. I've never tried that but I think I've definitely experienced the reason why rider's use it. Thankfully, I just replaced my stock seat after 50,000 miles.Newportcycle wrote:Sounds like your making good progress with your planning, dont for get the monkey butt powder.

Re: Iron Butt 50CC
Good luck to you, please keep posting here on your preparations. I've often thought about a 50CC but after completing a couple of 1000+ days, not sure I've got the right stuff. Thank you for your response. I'm mapping out my plan which is a daunting task. I met with my local BMW dealer to schedule ...

Re: Iron Butt 50CC
I've decided I'm going to ride the Jacksonville, FL to San Diego, CA route. But I'm adding another element to this ride....the Four Corners Tour. I'll ride up to Madawaska, Maine to begin the Journey. Then ride to Key West, Florida for the second corner. I'll then ride bike to Jacksonville, FL to be...

Iron Butt 50CC
I'm planning to attempt an Iron Butt 50CC (Coast to Coast in under 50 hours) on my way to the BMW MOA Rally in July. I plan to ride my 2002 BMW R1150R. I'm interested in whether anyone has attempted this and have a recommendation for a route? The most popular route seems to be from Jacksonville, FL ...

Re: Clutch
I still have a lot of confidence in my '02 R1150R. I'm leaving at 4:00 a.m.tomorrow morning to ride from Boston to Asheville, NC (approximately 900 miles). Monday I plan to ride the entire length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. Depending on traffic. I may have to complete it on Tuesday....

Re: Clutch
Oliver, I completely agree with your position and assessment. I suppose my expecation for BMW is a little higher than other manufacturers. Overall, the years and 10's of thousands of pleasurable miles have more than made up for this one unusual circumstance. I continue to be a big fan of BMW motorcy...

Re: Clutch
It may not be a clutch problem but the reality is the clutch had to be replaced. I'm not concerned what part is the culprit, I'm concerned that I have to pay unnecessarily for parts BMW knows are a problem. I've been a HUGE BMW fan but their record on recalls and not acknowledging problems is questi...

Re: Clutch
My bike is meticuously maintained and I'm not an aggressive rider at all. However, my clutch slave leaked @ 36,000 miles and I had to replace the clutch. It's the only major issue I have had with any BMW but I wasn't at all happy about this. I still have my '02 R1150R but I added a '12 R1200R Classi...

Re: Fuel strip
I just purchased a new R1200R Classic and the Fuel Strip failed at 25 miles. I drove by the dealer yesterday because I was unaware of this problem. His response, "It has been a problem with previous years but I'm VERY surprised to see it on your bike." He offered to replace it immediately ...

Re: 2012 BMW R1200R Classic
I wonder what a BMW dealer would give me for an immaculate 2002 R1150R (non-ABS) with 40,000 miles. I suspect it would be less than $4,000.

Re: 2012 BMW R1200R Classic
Hello Bruce, I suspect you're right. I thought I would ride my R1150R initially for an upcoming trip to Asheville, NC and the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as to the MOA National in July. I will have a real dilemma if I gravitate to the R1200R exclusively because I know I would never be able to sell th...

2012 BMW R1200R Classic
I am taking delivery of the R1200R Classic today. My plan is to also keep my R1150R but I suspect there's such a huge difference between both models that I will gravitate more to the R1200. I hope that my enthusiasm and appreciation for both will remain equal!

Thank you for your kind comments, Bruce! I hope you've been enjoying your new R1200R. I'm looking forward to enjoying the next two months of riding in New England.

Wilbers Shocks
I sent an e-mail to The Beemer Shop yesterday morning requesting information on the Wilbers Shocks. Later that afternoon I received a call from owner, Ted Porter. All I can say is WOW! It's so refreshing to speak to someone so pleasant and knowledgeable. He provided a very objective comparison of al...

I am less familiar with the R1100R and whether the spoked wheels on the special model will fit on the R1150R?rickmbmw wrote:You know, BMW made spoked wheels for the R1100R, I think it was in 2000. It was a special model of some sort.

Re: Spoked Wheel Conversion
Those are the advantages as I see them. I am simply doing a complete overahul on my bike this winter(i.e., Jet-Hot coating on header pipes, re-polishing my Staintune exhaust, replacing my stock shocks with Wilbers, installing custom seat, etc.) BTW, my local BMW dealer mentioned it would cost approx...

Re: Spoked Wheel Conversion
I'm curious whether the new spoked wheels on the R1200R Classic would fit the R1150R...even though I still struggle with 'why' BMW put a tire requiring tubes on such an innovative bike. One dealer justified the decision by stating, "BMW wanted to stay with a CLASSIC design!" I then questio...

Spoked Wheel Conversion
I have a 2002 BMW R1150R and would like to put spoked wheels on my bike. Does anyone know if the wheels from a GS will fit the R1150R?
