Re: I just retired...

Newport: I would never recommend an open-face helmet to anyone! Thing is, I'm old school, and I need to feel the wind on my face and the bugs hitting my teeth. One time it was a bird, and I ended up with a mouth full of feathers! This time I was wearing a brand new AFX FX50, quite a modern open-face...

Re: I just retired...

That's totally beautiful, Harry! I'd like to go all the way back to my first /2, either the R60 that I had, or even better, my brother-in-law's R69S. Now that was a bike!

Re: I just retired...

Thanks for remembering me, guys! Whitelightning, FredeR1200Ric (thepeacebullgrunt), Don E, dbrick, SDMax, thanks all. I'm back to full hiking on the new ankle, just about the shape I was a year ago (minus the year, of course), and I've got some heavy SCUBA diving lined up for next month, so I'm doin...

Re: I just retired...

I had my ankle rebuilt again in November, and just got my "walking papers" for full activity. Thanks for asking! I'm still monitoring the board, and still jonesing for a bike, but I've gotta consider the wife's feelings, so currently I am still retired. BTW, SD-Max and I visited my crashed...

Re: Fuel Strip finally addressed by BMW..sort of

When BMW announced extended warrantee coverage for the fuel strip I remembered that I had had it changed, and paid for it, a couple of months before. I asked the dealer, and he said that he would submit it to BMWNA. It is now 2 1/2 months since I crashed and totaled the "R", I am just lear...

Re: I just retired...

Thanks guys! Thanks for listening. I felt the need to externalize... Woland: I'm with you, brother. I did the serious cancer thing 22 years ago, and it just made life, and riding, all the sweeter, every damn day. In fact I recommend everyone get, and survive, cancer, just for the philosophical gains...

I just retired...

Dear guys and gals of the R1200R forum: I just retired, from motorcycling. Here's the story: After over 50 years of safely riding motorcycles, I finally hit the “big one”. On 4 Aug I went for a ride, first over Casitas Pass to Ojai for breakfast and a tank of gas. Then up Hwy 33, a real world-class ...

Re: Another Tire Thread

Just replaced my PR3 rear at 10,000 miles (instead of 12,000, like last time), mostly because there was a PR3 on the rack and no PR4, and I wanted to go on a trip NOW. The tire didn't look worn out, but the handling increased dramatically with the new one! In the future I'm gonna replace at 10,000 m...

Re: Fuel Strip (Again)

That's been my experience too, Don. What I'm reporting is that my new fuel strip, unlike all previous strips, starts dropping immediately, shows half when about half full: linear throughout the whole range. So my question is, did they make a change for the better or did I just get really really luck...

Re: Fuel Strip (Again)

And here's a plus: my new fuel strip, unlike the previous two, shows a linear drop in fuel through the entire range, and is close to right-on for miles remaining towards the end. Have they improved them? In any case, I'm happy! :D

Re: New Roadster

I think they are perceived as "stodgy", Leonardo, and more suited to middle-aged riders. They want to hook those young squids! Me, I loved my Earles fork R60; I preferred its handling to the better-looking, more modern telescopic forked slash-5 I replaced it with, and regretted having sold...

I see you got the SW Motech crash bars, before the accident. Smart man! Smarter than me...

Dbrick, his pix of the bike with SW Motech bars are excellent, and will do just as well as pix of mine.
