Re: quick release lids

Got mine as well!
Thanks a lot, I appreciate all the effort it took to make this happen.
(I look forward to keeping raingear on the bike by default from here on out...)

Re: How To Install GS Handguards On A R1150R

Thanks for this tutorial!
Just ordered a set #71607652330 of fleabay.
Saw a set installed at the dealership the last time I was there, and realized that these would make all the difference in the bitter weather (and apparently this winter will be bitter...)

thanks again!

Re: "accidents"

I ride to/from work in NYC near daily, and go by the golden rule of 'if there's a stupid maneuver open to a cab/SUV near me, they'll take it.' Sure I get pleasantly surprised often by good driving, but all too often there's a car swerving perpendicular across all four lanes of an avenue. Before I pu...

Re: Smoke at start up

I just noticed this the other night, and holding paper up before the exhaust made no marks, except when I actually touched the exhaust with the paper. I always use the center stand (my Triumph had no center stand, and I watched it get tipped repeatedly by both wind and drunken neighbors...)

Re: What wiring will I find under my tank?

Have been meaning to shoot a quick video of R1150R tank removal process. Post it on YouTube, use a good sound track, talk my wife into lead role instead of ugly old me. Let me know if this would be helpful, or just a stupid idea. Not at all a stupid idea. I got home from work today to find those JV...

Re: What wiring will I find under my tank?

Thanks sweatmark, I see what your guide is now. Definitely the result of better planning than I usually perform. I would've tried something similar, but with paper and lots of photos. Corrugated cardboard seems a much smarter choice. I got off the phone with a dealer who said I shouldn't have any pr...

Re: What wiring will I find under my tank?

I see. So the cord going into the cradle is never going to fit. I've Seen pictures of the cradle with the pins exposed (meaning it comes off...) Maybe I can still get a (pre-canbus) power cable that would fit, since they sold them back in the old days of 2002. Found a cradle for $410: http://www.bmw...

What wiring will I find under my tank?

Hello again, I bought my 2002 R1150R last summer, beautiful stock showroom condition, the only 'option' was the external accessory plug, installed by dealer. In the last 8000 miles I've kept an eye out for stuff (got bags) and now have my very first GPS, a BMW Navigator III. The original owner was a...

Re: Having second thoughts

I'm 6'2" and thought I'd need to lower the pegs when I picked up my 1150r, but a used sargent seat made it unnecessary. I did some good riding in the white mountains this past weekend, and the seat made it feel like nothing.

Re: Buying an r1150r

Congrats! I picked up a completely stock 2002 RR a month ago, and so far am extremely happy with it. Also Non-ABS I paid $6000, it had 4400 miles on it. Since then I picked up a used Sargent seat, and find it rides even better. (I'm 6'2") Now I just need to figure out baggage. I was riding a 19...

Re: Motorcycles aren't about logic, I should buy a BMW, right?

Right. I just bought a 2002 r1150r stock (non-ABS) with 4400 miles on it for $6000. It looks like it just came from the showroom. I didn't wait to sell my 1983 Honda first. That would have been more logical, but I didn't want to lose out. I just got it back from the dealership for the 6000 mile serv...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

Okay, I picked up the 2002 r1150r, and will be taking it to the Manhattan dealer on Tuesday for an oil/brake fluid change and inspection. I'll ask around the techs how much they've heard about it (though obviously it wasn't a make or break issue for me. too good a deal to pass up. 4400 miles, $6000,...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

I suppose it is really gnit-picking at this point. I test rode the Ducati ST2 today, and didn't like it much at all. I'm just not for that forward position (and I understand that's not even a sport bike, officially). It ran great, though. Responsive as hell, front brakes that could toss you over EAS...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

Okay, I'm officially a little freaked out. I went to look at a 2002 R1150R with 4500 miles on it. It's in mint shape, and I almost left a deposit, but wanted to do more research on the bike first. Since then I've read all the spline threads on these forums (and elsewhere) and I now feel really hesit...

Re: NYC cops targeting bikers!!!!

I've had alternating degrees of scrutiny from police in NYC. I live in Brooklyn and ride over the Williamsburg to midtown to work, and have been stopped multiple times, sometimes more often than not. I got stopped a lot in 2002, when Bloomberg doubled the fees for tickets and the city needed money f...
