Re: A sad farewell to one of the forums founder members...

Pat was the most legitimate biker I've ever heard of.

This is a terrible loss, and my deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

Re: Dealers

Bakernks, Why are you going to the KC dealer ? Doen't Nickel's still sell BMW ? Or did BMW force them out of the fanchise due to the multi-brand issue ? Airman Nichols, or MAP now, is still the dealer here in Wichita. Superior BMW support, better service and friendliness in general are leading me t...

Re: Question for bakernks

Hey bakernks, I see you own a 1150R and well as an F650GS. I own a 2002 R1150R. I am also very interested in purchasing a F650GS (probably Dakar version). What is your overall view on the R1150R vs the F650GS on the road, handling, etc.... Also, which bike do you find yourself riding more? Thanks f...

And for some time I have wondered with all the electronic engineering we have in this world, if with a simple 2 cylinder engine like the 1150, it could not be engineered that the "A" cylinder TB flow be measured as part of normal data collection, and the info incorporated into the informat...

Not to hijack whatsoever from your great looking bike, but I like the chrome front cover on these engines, it really cleans up the looks I feel.

Man, that's like a date with a supermodel. You just can't be dissapointed in your results.

I'm really curious as to what the full up weight is, this bike could be a hundred pounds lighter than a standard BMW, the performance should be good.

S'ok, if I can't get exactly what I want, a silver/silver model without ABS, with heated grips and hard bags, so be it. I can ride my '04 50R for many years until I can. Heck, I just bought the thing, it has a whole 3k miles on it. (I ride the 650 alot)

Still maybe trading in, but not for the 12GS

Today was a watershed day on the possible trade in of my 2004 R1150R this year. I rode all over town, as temps reached 66F here, a freakish Texas style winter we're having. I love the 2 spark 50R, and have it equipped just as I want. But I'm really wanting to step over to the new engine, the R1200. ...

From the latest pics on the Inside thread, that bike is beautiful. Even though I live in the city that produces Big Dogs, I generally don't care for choppers/cruisers/your choice of terms, however, RCHOP's bike is really tastefully done, the lines are clean, the positoning of components is creative ...

I prefer the Cee Bailey touring shield to the original profile the BMW touring shield had. I swap the shields out basically depending on the temperatures, usually changing it a couple times a year.

I sawed the top 7" off the BMW touring shield. Works better actually, doesn't bounce, ever, from turbulance.

I have heard of different break down's over the years of the models BMW makes that use the R1150 engine. Our 50R, the GS, the RT, etc. I've seen ugly pics of spline failures. Rear drive failures, both in the ring gear and in the seal. Burned up clutches bare of friction material, shiny steel showing...

the 50R

Now that I've moved up to the 2 spark R1150R from my first go around with this model, and have the new bike fixed up the way I want, it's difficult to think clearly about trading it for one of the new Hexheads. I know I want one of them. I already am fortunate enough to own a fabulous 2nd bike, the ...

It came to me looking at the minimal painted parts on the R1200GS. They change colors of that bike with just 2 or 3 small painted parts. Light bulb went on. Take a GS, shorten the suspension abit, very easy. Make a fuel tank different, smooth, curvy. Not very much expense there. Replace the GS front...

My money lies on BMW using the GS as the platform for a new R1200R. They've done it before. Word has it the F800 ain't such a done deal over on this side of the water. Lots of money to buy that sweet Rotax powerplant puts it on the unmarketable table pricewise. If the 800 doesn't make the boat, whic...

The book that answers all mechanical questions, folks, is called Machinist's Handbook. There is a table for torque conversions listing lots and lots of lubicants and the % of change their use requires to equal the true torques value. For fine threads, for regular threads, everything. It isn't black ...

The last RD400 was also a 1976, but I went a little bit different way on this one. After this bike, it was a stock RZ350 KR replica. I left it alone!
