Re: Top Box and Panniers

I'll give another vote for the System Cases and Givi topbox combo (I have the large E52 box). Works great, and no complaints from pillion - no real need for grabrails either, with the topbox acting as a bit of a backrest.

Wow, I'm jealous. We had intended to go camping in Scotland this year (but not on the bikes, my good lady wasn't sure if she could cope with camping AND biking in the face of adversity :) ), we ended up in the Lake District since she was worried about the midges up in Scotland... You have visited bo...

Great series of pictures - some of that I have only just done myself for the very first time today :) Good tips about the oil filter - I'll be doing that next weekend so I'll try and remember about it being hot, that hadn't crossed my mind even though it's pretty obvious if you've warmed the bike up...

Quick question re: 12K mile service & fuel filter

Hi all, Does anyone ever change the fuel filter at 12K miles? My '03 Yellowjacket is in for its 12K service in couple weeks, I thought I'd do a bit of the easier stuff myself (as I'm building a bit of spannering confidence) and so got a 12K service kit from MotorWorks here in the UK: http://tinyurl....

Other UK members - online places to get sparks/filters etc?

Hi, My 2003 RR is going in for a 12000 mile service in a few weeks, in the meantime I have decided to do a few things myself (oil change/filter, air filter, sparks) to learn a little more about the bike and maintenance in general (after doing some on our old GN250 recently I'm a bit more confident!)...

Not quite so big as a Hawk, but I caught a poor little fella on a holiday in France couple years back: http://www.ashhogg.com/smcc/gallery/displayimage.php?album=19&pos=35 You're lucky that bird wasn't flying any higher, if it had hit you in the torso or head I can't imagine it would have been v...

aghogg... thanks for the added information - very useful. Just to clear up one point of apparent confusion - I've just discovered that the UK version of the Quest (not the Quest 2) has extra memory, making 243 Mb of useable ram. Check out the spec under the following link - not a bad deal I think. ...

Thanks for the reply Tony. Could you please let me know if it's possible to select map areas from the CD by dragging a box over a given map? - if you understand what I mean ...or does the software dictate which map areas are available for download? I haven't been able to determine this - for me, im...

A shame if the Stantons aren't being made any more, I did quite like the look of those :( But thank you for confirming that the power socket is still accessible, that's definitely a huge help and means I will definitely consider the Hepcos. I have the plastic BMW guards at the moment which I wouldn'...

Stanton head covers

I was doing a little searching on the board earlier, as I've been thinking of getting engine crash guards (Hepco Becker) and just wanted to see what else was available and what comments people had already contributed. The look of the Hepcos doesn't bother me, but I did find a forum member's pictures...

Aghogg Can you mount the rack to allow it to sit over the pillion? Then it would be my backrest also. Not easily, I don't think. The rack attaches to the rear subframe, as well as the top of the BMW pannier rails for support. As someone else mentioned before (perhaps on a different thread, I know I...

Okay, here's a pic of my yellow monster with the BMW system cases, and Givi E52 topbox: http://www.ashhogg.com/misc/DSC01185.JPG I have the newer Givi mounting frame, which actually *requires* the BMW pannier rails to be fitted. Looking at your photo, I'm not entirely sure if the BMW rails would fit...

John, I'm sure I have a couple of decent pics of my bike showing the BMW/Givi setup. When I get home from work tonight I'll post one up so you can see what it looks like. Offhand I don't know how much the BMW pannier rails cost since mine came fitted on the bike already. My other concern would be th...

Have you already got the Givi panniers? I have a Givi E52 topbox on my ride, but stuck with the BMW panniers and rails. Doesn't look out of place to me, but then not everyone may share that opinion. And of course, you may already have bought your Givis or simply prefer the size/look/price or whateve...

UK - National Rally 2006 - did you ride?

Did any of the other UK members here do the BMF National Rally this weekend? Myself and 2 other guys from our club entered for the Special Gold award. For those who don't know, the NR is a 'scatter' rally. There is a matrix of checkpoints spread around England, and you plan a route that gives the co...

Just to chip in, I just bought a Garmin Quest last week (not the new Quest 2). Must confess I've only had a chance to use it in the car and it seems to work great. I have a RAM handlebar mount for it, and a little connector gizmo to power it off the 1150's power socket and give me a headphone socket...

What do you think you are having a problem with? I must admit when I got mine, I wasn't entirely sure it was on right either! I ended up with a couple of very small raised folds right near the very front of the petrol tank on each side, just above the oil coolers. I looped a strap on each side round...
