Re: Excessive Heat ?! Please Help
I'm pretty sure that's the air box temperature sensor, feeding the engine management computer info. I don't think that's your problem. You're either shockingly lean or timing is way off. Good luck with your project! What do the spark plugs look like?

Re: Speed Bleeder/Bottoms Up
OP was about clutch bleeder. I just put a regular bleed screw in, BMW part (sorry, no #'s handy) to replace the factory "chunk." Then I bleed the clutch the same way I do the brakes. Personally, I gravity bleed 'em and take my time. No air, no mess, no worries. YMMV. It's not fast, but it'...

Re: ABS Failure
+1 on this ^. My ABS pump has been removed and the non-ABS/non-servo brakes work great. Just no ABS (besides what's built into your skillset). If you can't trust it, that's a problem. Good luck!

Re: Back here + on a Boxer: feels like coming home
I was under the impression the R9T used the old R1150R boxer engine. That's how I landed here. Love that engine. If they made a "new" bike using it, I'd like to be in on that.

Re: ABS Fluid Change and R1200GS Adventure Loan Bike
Agreed, all around. It is why I do as much of my own work on the bike as possible. No one will take care of your bike like you will. Dealer mechanics don't have time to give your bike extra love, and that's fine, since it would cost a fortune. Bleeding the brakes and clutch are things I do a few tim...

Re: I return with a $2200 bike
The clutch plate is how all the torque of the engine is transferred from the engine to the trans to the rear. The clutch plate hardly (a fraction or an inch) moves at all, you engage and it really just relieves the pressure and lets the plate slip. Over the years people have come to believe that by...

Re: I return with a $2200 bike
Roger that, sir! Put 62K on a brand new '02 R1150R before the spline output shaft went south  In disgust I sold it for a ZRX1200R. However, I just couldn't get that good Oilhead vibe out of my head and when this beauty showed up, I pulled the trigger. PS - Yes, I'll be doing a spline lube on th...

Re: I return with a $2200 bike
Yes, thank you - agreed! It does need a new battery. This one works, but I don't feel good about it. Man, you've been here awhile, lol, since I remember you from when I had my original black beauty (paid full retail ). I am loving this bike.

Dunlop Sportmax with about 70% tread left. Yeah. SMH. I think I "stole" one here. Let's see how she sits after another 10K/end of season on her.

I return with a $2200 bike
When a lightly used '02 R1150R appeared in the local Craigslist, at $2200, I knew I had to go look. I was not looking for another Oilhead, or bike in general, since I already own a 1985 R80 mono that I like a lot. Plus, I really don't have the money (I've got 2 teenage daughters...) I showed my wife...

Re: Back in the saddle
Agreed, all around. Undervalued and under appreciated. *Except by those who know. I am loving this bike. When I found out that the City Cases the bike came with retail for $388 EACH (!), I knew I got a great deal. The bike is bone stock. I gave it a "canister-ectomy" yesterday (removed cha...

*Following. Literally in the same situation. I do most of my own work but I'd really hate to bung this up and have that site glass bounce off my left boot while I'm rolling down the road. Hmmmmm.

Re: Back in the saddle
Similar story here, Photoguy. Bought an '02 R1150R in 2002, new, and put 68K on it before the dreaded output spline failure hit in 2008. Sold it in disgust, got a ZRX1200R (whew, no regrets there!), but that bike encouraged me to do bad things, fast, so I sold it for an R80 mono Airhead, which I sti...

Re: Servo brakes=ABS
That is correct. No "power" brakes as on the iABS system, just regular, reliable hydraulic brakes, which work fine.

Re: Rear Swinging Arm Bearing
When mine developed some play, I put in the Rubber Chicken Racing (yes, that's what it's called) bushing, which is a much better design AND less expensive than the fragile OEM parts. It made a difference in handling.

Re: Major Failure Poll
My '02 R1150R with 63K on it suffered spline failure, for what it's worth. My thread is back in July, I believe. I now ride a Kawasaki ZRX1200R and have no regrets. I loved the R and got good use out of it but I am a bit disappointed, to be honest. If you're one of the lucky ones, good for you! If n...

Re: Y pipe for 2004 R1150R
I have one of these Y-pipes I'm willing to sell, from my '02 R1150R, and one for an R1150RT (it's a single pipe). It drops a lot of weight off the bike and it runs cooler. My bike ran great with that, a K&N, Techlusion, and Two Brothers pipe.

Re: Any truth to "improved" style of oem rear swingarm bearings?
I put the bushing kit in myself, figuring I only wanted to do this once and it looks like a significant upgrade. The old bearings were in very bad condition when they came out. I can't remember the price difference though. I got it from Rubber Chicken Racing.
