Re: FD Failure and our dealer
Art, Point taken, After a conversation with a few other owners and fellow inmates my second response was a rather heated response to a non-issue, taken more out of context here on the forum then the conversation we were having off line about the common threads of the 1150, so in retro I even asked m...

Motorcycle Superstore http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/12 ... Tires.aspx or SWmoto http://www.swmototires.com/ , both are good. Which ever one has the best deal at the time! All the tires come from the same distributor anyway.

Re: FD Failure and our dealer
Either he's lying or they have never sold an 1150! (doubtful) I heard the same once from my dealer. Interestingly enough, they are no longer in business. Wayne Or they have never successfully repaired one and vowed never to speak of it again! Either way, I have been around salesman all my life and ...

FD Failure and our dealer
We went to our local dealer today to see what 2011 bikes they have and to watch a local couples slide show on their ride to Alaska and back. While there I asked what does the new 2011 R1200R do better then the 1150R and the differences between them. I'm not saying I didn't already know the answers t...

Re: What seat do I have?
I'm sure you will be happy with any seat you get to replace what you have now, but I have one comment. I had a Rick Mayer seat, Rick was great, no problems in dealing with him. I was happy with my custom seat from him. Until I put a Sargent seat on my bike. Whoa... what a difference from stock. And ...

Re: DIY service history
I keep a small pocket sized book to write down everything I do to my bike and when with mileage. I also use it for keeping track of mileage and trip notes when out riding. It's really for my own benefit, but when I sell a bike the buyer likes to see the detailed records and the amount of service the...

Re: What seat do I have?
Take a photo and write down any part number on the bottom, post it here and you should get an answer in short order. The factory seat is good for a 30-32" inseam, so chances are its just a factory standard seat. They did however make a low version as does just about every after-market company t...

Re: Uneven disc pad wear
The pads are of different thickness is a fact, but applying low pressure to the brakes will tend to cause the inner ( piston side) to wear more then the outboard pad and combine this with thinner pads already and you have what you see in the photos ( nice photos by the way!). This is due to friction...

Re: jvb dvd
Keep the wheel on, the engineers at BMW calculated the exact thickness of a cut out washer jug, then placed the rear diff drain plug that exact distance from the tire sidewall. This is assuming you have the stock wheel and tire combination. ;) Valve clearance and end play are pretty straight forward...

Re: DOES ANYONE CONVERT HIS R1150GS IN R1150R
I would think it would be better in the long run to get an R1150R or R1200R and put a Sargent seat and Ohlin shocks on it, then to substantially modify a 99 GS for street / track riding.

Re: GPS recommendation
Garmin allows you to turn off the auto reroute ( bitch mode), you just need to go into the setup and turn it (her) off. The Routing you are able to do on the Map Source software on your PC is the only way to plot your exact route. We all use GPS differently, I typically do not plot a predetermined r...

Re: GPS recommendation
Well, now seems to be a good as time as any to chime in... I have many miles with Doris ( Garmin 2720), and her insistent and sometimes condescending tone. But wouldn't think of riding without her, until recently. I purchased a Zumo 550 from a fellow inmate and in the process of switching over. What...

Re: Oil Change
Moisture and acid build haven't changed over the years, sub-micron particles that pass through most after-market filter are there as well. It comes down to the type of riding you do and how many miles do you put on in a year? Today's high detergent oils are great for keeping the oil passages and cra...

Re: Do throttles stick open?
Like most here, keep it simple. 1. When did you first notice it? 2. Did you do anything to the bike before you noticed this condition? 3. Are you sure? 4. Simple inspection of the throttle cable, starting with the T/B end seated in the bracket and working your way back to the high idle switch on the...

Re: Any alternative to that @#$% airbox?
Really good discussions, I'm very impressed with the amount of work that has gone into some of your performance mods. To address the question, sure you can remove the air box to fit a smaller footprint solution, but what price are you willing to pay in performance and cost? The box is a PITA and I t...

Re: '03 clutch fluid milky white?
If this is the same mechanic that said milky white is normal, hell yeah...its possible. It's more likely moisture / water that is producing the milky white color. Pressure washing, poor reservoir seal, etc... Will be a good place to start. The fluid should come out very much like it went in, clear, ...
