Dave, I've run into the need for specific nuts and bolts for my 04 RR on many occations. Here's where I look up the part numbers: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0439&mospid=47984&btnr=16_0487&hg=16&fg=03 and then I order them from Bob's BMW or A&S. Hope that helps!

I may be asking a stupid question, but what's the oil temp guage for? Does it serve a practial purpose, or is it an esthetic thing? I commute 100 miles a day in stop and go traffic in temps that exceed 115F in the summer. I've never had any indication that the engine is anywhere near overheating in ...

I guess if you intend to keep the bike and drive it forever it doesn't matter, but I can't help but believe that bastardizing your brake system would reduce the value of the bike 30-40%. I wouldn't buy the bike on a bet (no offense). You might be better off trading for a bike that came equiped the w...

You should use the brand that you feel comfortable with, but I've installed the quick disconnects from Small Parts with the Buna-N o-rings and had no problems whatsoever. I've contacted Small Parts and they've confirmed that the Buna-N is the right o-ring for contact with gasoline. YMMV

Marku, The hoses you are pointing at are the fuel line hoses. If you follow the hoses a couple of inches towards the gas tank you will come to two 'quick disconnect' fittings that are famous for breaking and leaking. Could it be gasoline that is leaking? If so, just do a search here for quick discon...

Yes, you absolutely need hose clamps. I picked up some hose clamps rated for fuel injection at a local auto parts store. Sorry, but I don't recall the size.

About a year ago I installed the brass quick dis-connects from SmallParts that you see in my post here : http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=63960&highlight=#63960 . They were about $10 bucks apeice and work great. There has been discussion about swelling of o-rings with these, but no report...

It's not that unusual for the BMW dealers to refuse to sell tools. Both of the Phoenix area dealers refuse to sell any tools.

I haven't run Seafoam in about 5K miles so that's a good idea. And I really appreciate the folks that are suggesting it needs to be run harder! Like I needed and excuse! I just spoke to the local dealership and they said they don't have any idea why that may have happened, but to bring it ...

I checked the valve clearances today and found all of them right were they have been for the last 12K miles: just on the lose side of the specs. I was worried that something might have changed and I had a valve too tight that caused the backfire and would be burning the valves. Nope! The backfire ha...

It Sounded Like a GunShot...

It Sounded Like a GunShot when I was starting my bike today ('04 RR w/30K miles). I looked down and the throttle body on the right hand cyclinder had blown completely loose from the cyclinder. There was about a 1/2" gap between the two! :smt119 I managed to coax the throttle body just slightly ...

Pop, That was a good idea. I just got back from the garage and I had no trouble dis-connecting and then re-connecting the couplers. If you follow the link to SmallParts on my previous post you'll see that the o-ring is in fact the Buna-n type. I think it's perfectly plausable that they changed the o...
