Re: Hyperpro Shocks

Here's the manufacturers Spec for the R1150R, for the Front + rear shocks. No noticeable change in height to the original Showa shocks. The Hyperpro Streetbox contains a replacement progressive front fork spring kit set and an adjustable emulsion shock absorber. They claim that:- "The springs a...

Re: Hyperpro Shocks

Yes - there is a pre-load adjuster on the rear Hyperpro Shock - same fitting on the bike as the original. The box set comes adjusted for rider weight when orderedv- but I want to check sag etc as soon as I understand the instuctions! Adjustment Spanners and Bracket for the pre-load adjuster come in ...

Hyperpro Shocks

As requested here's my overview of the Hyperpro Schocks I fitted: Ordered from Motorworks who gets them from the Netherlands - I got the basic 'box' set of front and rear shocks c, £1000 including postage. They took about 3 weeks to arrive and the appearance / quality is excellent. They are very wel...

Re: Oil cooler cover fixings

Thanks Riceburner -Now that I know what they are called - I found Well Nuts all over the net and some actually gave dimensions which helped!

Oil cooler cover fixings

Can anyone tell me where to get those oil cover fixings - I do not know what they are called. They are small cylindrical fixings of internally screwed brass with a grommet that holds the fitting in the hole so that the bolt can be screwed into it? Every time I remove the tank another one pops out an...

Hi Soliton - that's not bling it's "Quality" - "the primary empirical reality of the world"

as every thinking motorcyclist has read in Persig's Book!

Re: Thank you for every piece of advice and encouragement.

An absolutely beautiful motorcycle - I zoomed in and noticed the bare bracket on the rear mudguard and a wrinkle on the air filter cover; ridiculously so perfect! - I'd love to see the other side.

Re: What's next for your 1150?

Well what's next - I'm putting on Hyperpro Shocks......BUT what I'd like to see on this forum is the expansion of the TECH TIPS & REVIEWS section to include the excellent posts that cover the main services which at the moment have to be laboriously searched for in the thousands of posts. There a...

Re: 2 year review

Well Swamper - your 53 years experience has just about convinced me there must be something about shocks. I've never really considered them as so important. I'm going to look at these Ohlins for the 1973 R1150R which I ride most of the time now. The rest of the BMW's I have (R90S, R26, R50/2) are pu...

Re: 2 year review

Most of the effort over the past 2 years was to remedy the built in problems of BMW installed bits...but recently I was in a BMW agency where they consider anything over 5 years an old bike! They don't even have the diagnostic testing equipment now for my 2003 R1150R but recommended a guy who does! ...

2 year review

I’ve had the 2003 R1150r for 2 years now. The best bike I’ve ever ridden. There was 16,000 miles on the clock when I bought it & I’ve added about 12,000 since purchase. The bike was and still is in excellent cosmetic condition but I think BMW favoured design over mechanical robustness. My BM is ...

Re: Anyone else noticed this?

This was really just a point of information - I found my throttle was so slick that I noticed small involuntary throttle inputs particularly around bumpy corners where small hand movements due to the bumps were transferred to the throttle. Generally not noticed but so much smoother now the throttle ...

Anyone else noticed this?

I’ve ridden ‘old’ BMW’s for years. One small difference on the R1150R is the ‘Snap Back’ Throttle. All my old bikes had a tension screw which kept the throttle in whatever position it was set. This was very useful for hand signals (remember those!) and made for a smoother ride particularly on bumpy ...

Re: Sensor rings/sensors removal

The brakes are great without the ABS. The ABS sensor rings remaining can stay there for now - Yes a winter job Using the original dirty Toko pads but apparently still with a lot of life in them I went for a 30 mile spin testing the brakes. Although they were fine and easily as good as before; there ...

Re: Sensor rings/sensors removal

Many thanks Sweatmark, I chose the option of keeping the original ABS wiring harness intact and drilled off and cut the wires inside the electrical section connected to the ABS unit ..........which I sealed and kept on the bike - this saved replacing the original brake micro switches. I Removed the ...

Sensor rings/sensors removal

After many problems with the ABS I removed most of the big heavy lump under the seat together with the redundant brake lines. Excellent info here on how to do it so many thanks to all. From this forum advice I went with the U Tube video "ABS Removal - How I convert etc" Brakes works just f...

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder

Changing the clutch slave cylinder is easy compared to splitting the bike in half to replace the clutch if the SC fails. If it looks good and there is no migration of oil visible behind the starter motor it's still IMHO worth drilling the safety hole in case of failure.....I wish I'd done that!
