Great report!! Living in Nashville, I have ridden all the roads you mentioned. Your great pics bring back memories of many good trips of my own.

Barber, anyone?

A small group from the Nashville BMW club is headed to Barber's this weekend for the races. Any of you going to be there?

Gypsy, Everytime I have done a certified IB ride I have left on a Friday night, and have spent the week adjusting my sleep cycle as described in my post. I leave in the evening, but I am leaving after just getting 5 or 6 hours of sleep. Also, I don't know what it is, but seeing the sunrise just seem...

On the Trace you stop for gas when it is available, not when you have to. Gas tank capacity was a major factor in my choosing to do the trip on the FJR rather than my BMW. Riding at "Trace Pace" the FJR gets about 55 mpg, and the tank holds a lot more gas than the 1150. It also a gas gauge...

Natchez Trace Parkway - Iron Butt Style

Sorry - the pics are not great. On IB rides I always get focused on the miles and never take enough photos. VM The idea of doing an Iron Butt Association Saddlesore Ride - 1,000 miles in 24 hours - on the Natchez Trace Parkway first occurred to me about a year ago. I have done other Saddlesore rides...

Great report. Thanks!!

I too have a small shield for most riding and a larger, touring shield for long trips.

Nice looking ride - too bad you got the "slow" red color :)

I have a Corbin seat that I bought used on this board. People seem to either love or hate Corbins - I really like mine.

I have also used an Airhawk (another purchase off this Board). It is OK, but mostly stays in a box on the shelf.

Gypsy, Awesome report. Though my 1150R isn't seeing many miles now, I still check this board fairly frequently, and the main reason I do so is for the awesome ride reports. I don't have the time to ride all the roads I really want to, but I can ride them mentally thanks to so many here. I will also ...

Congratulations. Now just sit back and wait a year or so before you get the official papers :) I have done two IB rides on my Roadster. The only real issue I had was wishing the gas tank was a little bigger. I did one ride with two GS riders and it was a little frustrating to watch them fill up ever...

Honda Hoot 2007

I headed up to the Honda Hoot this weekend. After work on Friday I headed east. I stopped in Crossville and camped at the Beanpot campground. This is a fave of mine. Good wooded tent sits and great shower house!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v426/valueman/HondaHoot/DSC02070.jpg On Saturday morn...

If you want a low cost option for mounting, check out this link to a mount I made for about $1. I use this for long trips, and it works great.

I will probably ride up for the day on Saturday. I might come back to Nashville Saturday night, or just camp somewhere along the way and ride home Sunday morning.

By the way, the Hoot is not this coming weekend, but the next - June 19-23.

I will be working at registration Thursday from 5pm until 9pm. I will likely be wearing my name tag, "Danny Wiley - BMW Motorcycle Club of Nashville." Make sure you say "hi" if you register during that time slot.

I'll do what I can, but I don't know how wise it is to count on a cigar smoking fat man on a Yamaha :)

Well, I have finally decided to make the trip over to Asheville. After spending the last two weekends at rallies (Burkesville and Huntsville), the Asheville trip might put me in the dog house a little, but it's just too close to not go. Also, I am writing a seminar on appraising high value and histo...

I have a Garmin 2720 that I use on my 1150R and my FJR. Garmin makes a motorcycle mounting kit that includes power and audio cables. You can get these directly from Garmin - I actually got mine on ebay. You will still need some sort of mount to attach the unit to the bike. I use a RAM mount on my 11...
