Re: Planning First Long Ride

Good Luck. I'm up in NE Iowa... it's a LONG way across the plains to get to some real riding.. As far as extra 'stuff'... tire plugger air compressor (really nice for starting in the morning) extra headlight bulb (needed one once) Personal comforts: I use cramp busters on both sides.. just to give m...

Re: wont run

Hey Guys, Finally got to it today... yep, exactly right. Put her on the center stand... turn left right.. that did it.. Left with the steering, she had power, right... power cut out. I then clipped all the zip ties and felt along the wiring from the switch and sure enough I could make her get/loose ...

Re: wont run

Thanks Guys I'll start there. Unfortunately, haven't been able to dig into it just yet, I'm in the middle of moving/selling a house so that's taking the majority of my 'free' time. I'll have to dig out my copy of 'Motorcycle Electrical Systems' book I never finished reading. I'll keep you pos...

Re: wont run

Thanks TowerWorker.. will give it a go this evening. Unfortunately, my electrical skills are quite lacking. So.. could I run this test? unplug the switch and see if it simply runs, if not, put in the 'jumper' on the plug receiver end and see if it runs?

Parked my '03 R1150R the other day and now, when I attempt to start I get intermittent/ interrupted power. When I put the key in and put to start position, I get no power at all to the 'dashboard'.. then.. I put her on the side stand and she'd start, stand her up and she'd shut down immediately with...

Re: valve adjustment Needed or not

Strange is right.. The first thing I did after getting my R (Her NAME is Mistress)... was to pay up for my life timer dues here and get the Clymer manual.. two best investments I've made!! Tower's manometer is easy to use, and like Strange I put tranny fluid in it. I don't get so anxious about it.. ...

Re: System Case Luggage Rack Issue

I had the same concern about securing the cases better than just a compression fit. I followed (CycleRob? or Tower, can't remember which) advice about putting a small pin thru the catch and lower guide. It works great. Keeps the bags from lifting so they are staying put on the rail. This works for m...

Re: new shocks dilemma?

Thanks,
Since I'm keeping her, the best bet is to just invest in her so she's ridable and I'll want to take her out. So, I think I'm going with Hyperpro's. Seem like a good reviews??

new shocks dilemma?

Hey Group, Can the stock shocks be rebuilt? I am planning on getting a new R1200RT, but don't worry, I'm keeping my R1150R, just the new RT is a better two up bike for the gf and me. I am planning on taking my R out on a 3 week tour this year and wondering if it's worth buying Ohlins/Wilburs/Progess...

Is it time for new shocks?

I've read a couple posts with the theme.. 'is it time?'.. so here's mine. I have just a hair under 56K on the bike.. is it time to replace the front/rear shock absorbers? We ride her mostly two up. I've felt recently (after our return from the 'Dragon' that the front end is not as 'solid' as I thoug...

Re: Rear preload with passenger?

Hey Billington2, We ride two up on our R all the time.. it's a great bike for hitting the twisties two up.. Of course, suspension set up can be very 'personal'. For pressures (which doesn't really matter) we run with Michilen PR3's at 38-40 psi. Also, we run with a pretty high amount of preload on t...

Re: First BMW Bike

Good Luck with your R.. I do truly enjoy riding mine. I've rented RT's.. but I love the more forward and quicker riding R. After you've had the shop review the bike, you may wish to consider doing the service work yourself. If you're tooled up, getting a Clymer manual for the bike makes doing the wo...

Re: stuck oil filter - how to fix

I had the same problem last season.. had to drive the screw driver thru.. put a nice gouge in the wall of the filter cavity ... but.. I ended up filing down the burr and then cleanning it really well and filling it in with JB Weld.. fortunately, the screwdriver didn't puncture the casing.. So.. from...

Hey Everybody, I just FINALLY took the plunge and lubed my clutch splines. Everything went smooth and the clutch splines looked ok. No rounding of the splines or anything... The interesting part was.. splines were dry as a bone. I used the Guard Dog moly just fyi.. My question is this.. How importan...

I"m ordering a pair from my local guy tomorrow.. I'll keep you posted on the mileage, how they do, all that... Doing a lot more riding two up these days.. so I'll be interested in the comparisons everyone has. The last two sets this season have been Roadsmarts.. and they've been.. ok.. nothing ...

for the fuel line.. I just replaced my male ends with nickel ones I got from Chicago BMW earlier this week.. I could NOT get the fuel line off the old ones.. so.. ran down to the local auto parts store and just bought about three feet of 5/16" multi fuel injector hose.. works fine. just make su...
