Re: Backfire & Stalling when at operating temperature

Thank you all! Got it to die again today and worked quickly to find out that the Hall Sensor (TDC) is bad once warmed up. 180º sensor was fine. I was also able to replicate this failure with a heat gun. This is a newer Bosch HES with only 8,000 miles on it. Guess I'm going to try the Enduralast bran...

Still have the charcoal vapor recovery canister?

I've been thinking the same thing. Charcoal canister has been removed as a part of troubleshooting this. I haven't had a chance to go for a ride yet.

Re: Backfire & Stalling when at operating temperature

Alright, the bike now dies consistently within 2 miles of start-up. It will not start until its cooled down a bit. I've been able to do some troubleshooting during the time while it won't start.

Have a good battery.
Have spark.
Have fuel flow.
Side stand switch is good.

Any ideas?

Re: Instrument Internal Lighting

Judging by my receipt from a few years ago, I bought four #74 LED bulbs and one BA7s LED bulb. If I remember correctly, the BA7s is for the clock. https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/instrument-cluster-gauge/74-led-bulb-1-led-miniature-wedge-retrofit-car/226/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2tyX8PGm5AIVFpSzC...

Re: Backfire & Stalling when at operating temperature

Were you turning slightly? If so its probably the dreaded ignition wiring failure at the headstock. Nope and I've gone through all the wiring on the front end of the bike when I re-wraped it due to the crumbling jackets. Now that I've had a little time to dive in further, I've got spark.I can confi...

Any reason you can't just post the part numbers in this thread?

Backfire & Stalling when at operating temperature

Hi Guys, while riding home from work today, approaching a traffic light (decelerating) my bike backfired and stalled. After about 30 mins on the side of the road it started normally and I ride a few more miles before repeating this process 3 more times. The last two times I was maintaining speed, no...

Re: Check ALL the bolts!

Another question on the braided wrap sleeving....I really like the idea but I was under the idea that the sleeving would need to be water resistant to protect the wires. Are the wires at risk with the braided sleeving or would they be OK? I thought about water resistance briefly. When my hall effec...

Sidestand - metal fatigue

I know I've seen a post about this before, can't find it now though. I bought the side stand pictured below to replace mine because the wear on mine concerned me. Mine is much worse. I know "they all do that" but, there must be a better solution. Anyone have any ideas? http://i179.photobuc...

Re: Check ALL the bolts!

Very nicely done! My wires look about the same. What did you use? How does it work? I usually just don't mess with any electronics so my temporary cheap fix was to wrap the wires in electrical tape! I really like what you did there! I did the E-tape/rubber splice tape fix a few times. Was really tr...

Re: Check ALL the bolts!

Well... been back on the road a few weeks now, figured I'd post an update. I didn't like the bent fork tube bolts so I bought a "new" set of forks from Beemer Boneyard. They are from a 2004 and in excellent shape. Every time I buy something from BB, I'm reminded of how great they are to de...

Re: Check ALL the bolts!

There's a divergence of opinion about the value of Loctite or a similar thread-locking compound in motorcycle component assembly. Chris Harris says that a fixing that's tightened to the correct, recommended torque-value will not come undone. But when you watch the assembly-line videos made by BMW B...

Re: Check ALL the bolts!

CycleRob & kirby thanks for the info. Rob, good catch. I was thinking the same and will go over the whole front end. Actually, going to go over the whole bike.

FYI, the lower half of the ball joint takes a 46mm deep socket.

Re: Check ALL the bolts!

CycleRob, I was hoping you'd respond. Finally something that makes sense to me. Seems like I have one without thread lock. jrsndman, It looks like the ball joint base's fat threaded end "un-threaded" from the front fork bridge. I seem to remember that there was an assembly line omission of...

Re: Check ALL the bolts!

ANY signs of thread locker on the bolt? Most critical bolts,(if not all?), have thread locker specified. That is very important on the boxers! Fact is its a good idea to use thread locker on most all the fasteners. No signs of any thread lock. Your saying that there were no symptoms at all? I would...
