Re: Electrical connector under driver's seat

But from his picture, it looks like that sensor is plugged in. Isn't that the thing in the middle?

Re: Electrical connector under driver's seat

Have not seen an R1100R with a carbon canister; but just judging from other oilheads I have seen: That looks like the connector to the solenoid valve which opens and shuts the tube that leads from the carbon canister to the airbox. It's a Kalifornia smog thingy. What happens is, the carbon canister ...

Always exhilarating to survive. Congrats.

Your photo link here does not work. The one in the 1150 section does.

Re: frosty ABS

Battery less than a year old. Connections tight. Only happens when temp in the low thirties. PO says it has always done this when cold.

Re: frosty ABS

Spoke to the previous owner just now. He said the brakes were bled by Bob's BMW last Spring. He said the ABS has always been sensitive to cold. This is a new one on me. My CLC has a very different ABS, complete with interlocked power brakes. Has never failed to initialize when cold; even down to 5 d...

frosty ABS

Well I was disappointed last night. After too long an Indian summer, Winter finally wint this weekend. Supposed to flurry when I rode to the gym last night, but all we got was a drizzle. Looked hopeful for this morning; supposed to snow last night. Nothing. Rode to work under stars. Bright and sunny...

Re: oil weeps from head gasket

Now there's the answer I'm looking for. So did you loosen the nuts, re-oil them, torque to spec, then go 185 degrees from there; or did you just twist another 5 degrees from where it was?

Re: Electrical connector under driver's seat

Maybe the previous owner installed a pigtail for a battery tender.
What;s the connector look like? What's on the other end?

Maybe there's different tanks. I don't have a book; I have to google. But look here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=2&q=http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/PDF%2520Downloads/R1100RSpec.pdf&usg=AFQjCNHttSmxXI4hq-XPHyp4k7eXvWHJBA and here: http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/bmw/first-impres...

Re: How far can you go?

You're both right: It's roughly 4 1/2 British gallons; 5 1/2 US gallons. My reserve light comes on very erratically. She may drink anywhere from 3 to 4 1/2. Sometimes it comes on, I ride thirty miles with it on, and then it goes off and stays off for another forty. Something is sticky. Have been 200...

Re: What grade gasoline are you using?

I read thru this whole thread and was astonished that no one yet pointed out that: a) European octane is apples. American is oranges. The diff is the American is tested at operating temperatures as well as under cold lab conditions. The American octane rating is an average of the two methods. That a...

Re: Input needed on the good and the not so good of a R1150R

As short as you are, have you considered an R1200C? Fabulous looks, cruiser ergos, and a LOW seat. People who haven't tried one parrot that they are underpowered; but don't be fooled -- max torque is at a mere 3,000 RPM and max horse at a mere 5,000; so though the HP stats aren't going to knock your...

How to Reset Motronic

The Motronic on my 2003 R1200CLC can be reset to defaults and put in learning mode by turning on the ignition without starting, then turning the throttle grip all the way back and releasing three times, then turning off the ignition.

Is there a similar procedure for the R1100R?

Re: Red light trigger test - starting up

I did this years ago with a big red magnet from the local Ace hardware on my Honda CX500. Worked great. Before the magnet, could never ever get a green out to the main road from home; almost never to the main road from the office park. After the magnet, I always tripped the signal, at both places. B...
