Re: Hyperpro Shocks

Thanks for the good idea. I think I'll pursue that solution.

Re: Hyperpro Shocks

The original rear shock on my 2002 R1150R just leaked its fluid at 92,000 miles so it's time to replace both front and rear. I'm just starting to research replacement shocks so of course I started with R1150R.net and found this thread. Is there consensus that Hyperpro is the way to go? Are there les...

Pilot Road 3

I've been running PR3 tire front and rear tires on my R1150R. It's time for a new rear tire, but the PR3 170/60-17ZR doesn't seem to be available. What rear tire can I get that will mate well with my PR3 front tire?

Re: Pilot Road 2 180/55ZR-17 OK for R1150R?

? A follow-up question: If I mount the newer Pilot Road 3 170/60ZR-17 on the rear and keep the Pilot Road 2 120/70ZR-17 on the front, will the bike handle any differently than it has with the PR2 on the rear?[/quote] Handling will be the same. I had the same set up for a while. I will be trying the...

Re: Pilot Road 2 180/55ZR-17 OK for R1150R?

I've tried to order a rear tire from Motorcycle Superstore to replace my Pilot Road 2 170/60ZR-17 with 14,000 miles on it, but it apparently is no longer available. They sell a Pilot Road 2 180/55ZR-17 that is slightly larger. My front tire is a Pilot Road 2 120/70ZR-17. Would the larger tire fit t...

How do you like your PR4s? I've heard mixed opinions of them.

Re: Fuel Injector Circuit

Running again! I re-examined the Hall sensor. Even though it had tested OK with and without heat earlier, I found considerable online commentary about the possibility of hidden wiring insulation damage. Sure enough, when I opened the outer casing of the cable, I found that the insulation on the indi...

Re: Fuel Injector Circuit

No, not running yet. A local independent BMW mechanic had it for a couple of days to check it out. He and I both thought that he might find a shorted circuit somewhere, maybe from a rat chewing on insulation, but he had no success. Then I had the local BMW dealer use their computer to check the motr...

Re: Fuel Injector Circuit

I find that cranking the engine with the handlebars at full right lock will produce occasional backfires, the only firing since it stopped running. That suggests that the anomaly is in wiring that is affected by handlebar movement. The ignition and kill switch circuits come to mind. I removed the of...

Re: Fuel Injector Circuit

Thanks, Mike. As I understand it, my '02 does not have stick coils, only the leads from the coil to the plugs. However, one or both leads could be bad. I'll try to check them out.

Re: Fuel Injector Circuit

Yes, I pulled and grounded both plugs plus used an external spark tester. Yes, I had the pump tested by a MC mechanic, then I checked the flow after the regulator at the return line. The possibly intermittent ground seems like a possibility. Maybe some grounding is weakening either the intensity of ...

Re: Fuel Injector Circuit

Well, the previous post wasn't entirely accurate. I pulled the injectors and found that they do spray fuel when the engine is cranked. So they obviously are receiving signals from the motronic. Which still leaves my basic problem. The engine cranks, the injectors deliver fuel, the plugs deliver spar...

Fuel Injector Circuit

My 2002 R1150R just stopped running one day while on the road. Died like I had turned off the ignition. When i try to start it, the engine cranks, the fuel pump and regulator pass fuel through the lines, the Hall sensors and coil operate properly, and the plugs spark. The side stand, clutch switch a...

Re: New to me 2004 R1150R

Here's a small refinement on what others have said. When engaging first from neutral at a stop, pull the clutch lever all of the way in, then release it slightly while pushing down on the shift lever. It'll engage first with a little clunk.

Re: DIY service history

I keep a small pocket sized book to write down everything I do to my bike and when with mileage. That's what I do, currently using an inexpensive school composition book from the drugstore. It's for my own use when servicing the bike or replacing renewables. I've shown them to buyers to indicate th...

Re: Engine oil viscosity

We experience similar temperature ranges in Southern California. I've used Castrol 20W/50 in my bikes for 35+ years with no ill effects. With the R1150R, I extended my oil change interval from 3,000 to 6,000 miles per the manual.

Prestone's the right stuff, but maybe you should bring the bike indoors tonight just in case.
