Re: Mss Voni Glaves achivement on boxer BMW

I fell on ice once too. Ice & motorcycles don't usually mix all that well. Plus the most natural position for any motorcycle is laying on it's side.

Re: New battery drains with heated grips on high

The owners manual for my GS says if you run the heated grips on high but engine revs are low, the battery could go flat. I think f4tweet is on to something. In addition to the other suggestions, keep the revs up for better battery charging. These motors like to run at 3K RPM or more.

Re: Thank you all so much, and Goodbye

Just because you are now riding a Triumph doesn't mean you have to say goodbye; stop in and say hi once in a while.

I no longer have an R1150R or R1200R - sold 'em both and now ride a R1200GS. But I still hang out and put up a post now and then.

I'd replace the plastic QDs right away if I were you. I wish I had done that, before mine failed and spilled gasoline all over my transmission, staining it permanently. Not to mention the fire hazard from gasoline everywhere.

Re: Major Oil Spillage

CycleRob, thanks for your excellent post. I use the 1 gallon container the oil came in for storing the old oil, until I can get it to the auto parts store for recycling. But I try not to leave used oil laying around for very long (no more than a few weeks) as it is toxic and corrosive. Eventually th...

Re: Sitting at light......neutral or 1st gear?

Just remember that all the lights, of any hues you like, in the world, will not make a dumbass driver actually look where he's going. Fixed it for ya. Seriously, don't y'all think lane splitting is a safer way to go? A few years back I was visiting CA and rented a bike and had a great time. With la...

indeed. I bought my bike because Ive wanted one for years....BUT...the fuel savings are a HUGE bonus. :) It just barely pays for itself, so... my fun riding...it's guilt free. I can tell my wife I'm riding to save money lol! Just don't tell the wife that the increased maintenance and tire expense m...

Re: Is the R1200R Motorcycle Nirvana?

"Is the R1200R Motorcycle Nirvana?" Not for me it wasn't, because it wasn't really all that comfortable for long rides, not enough legroom for a tall guy like me. Other than that I loved the R1200R I used to have. But the R1200GS I ride now is considerably better for long rides. For me the...

Re: Rocky Mountains here I come...but I need advice

Personally I'd avoid Rocky Mt NP like the plague this time of year, but I can't stand to be stuck in endless traffic of RV's, minivans and hordes of pirates riding 15mph in tight formation, I like to wear my tires more evenly when in CO. It is friggin' crowded, and quadruply so on weekends. The key...

Re: A defensive mentality while riding

Parking lots are one of the most dangerous places to be. In almost 30 years of riding I've never had an accident other than a few minor tipovers. Knock on wood. It is amazing how many people are on the road with no clue how to drive. Here in the US, they will give a drivers license to just about any...

Re: stupid dilemma - safety or expediency in summer riding g

I've ridden without a helmet a few times on short rides, dunno how the Harley guys do it. The wind blast is deafening without a helmet, even with earplugs. Not to mention the bugs & rocks & general road debris hitting you in the face. Even more fun if it rains. Man those Harley guys must be ...

Re: Yet another tire thread

Indeed, I'm lucky to get 8K out of a set of tires. 18K? Geez, can't imagine that. And the handling has deteriorated long before the tires are completely worn. It's always amazing how much better a bike feels with new tires.

Re: Anyone tried the new Tourance Next?

Nice try Karamazov but I'm sure it will be taken as a challenge to some of the dual sport crowd. I won't jump into the mud pit with you and post my feelings about the new "off road adventurer" types. It amazes me when I go to rallys and see rows of GS bikes lined up,some five or more year...

Re: Anyone tried the new Tourance Next?

Just judging from appearance the new ones look much less capable off pavement. Many fewer edges to work with. Supposedly, on these next generation tires it's the compound not the tread pattern that is alleged to supply superior traction off the pavement. Sounds like marketing hoopla to me. I have A...

Re: Speedo floating at 90-110mph

Yep sounds like a speedo cable issue to me too.

I seldom go that fast on my MC, it's not all that fun going that fast. The wind blast at 90+ is brutal, and can you imagine the big fat ticket you'd get if a cop caught you? And, imagine a blowout at that speed. They'd be scraping you off the pavement.

Re: Help me spend my money (on a r1200r)

Sellers market, eh? Apparently I let my '08 R1200R with 17K go too cheap: 8 grand. I didn't exactly have people beating down the door to buy it either. Took me 6 months to sell it. I must have been doing something wrong.
