I think he means to run it up to redline (bump the rev limiter) through a few gears on occassion, not to cruise at 6-7K RPM's miles on end. They need to be blown out periodically.

My 02 R would ping after I got about 9K on her. Hot in Houston too. I used the sea foam as well and made it a habit to hit the rev limiter a time or 2 towards the end of each ride.
