Re: TwinMax or Carbtune?
On my homemade stick I used automatic trans fluid (nice and red). The problem I have is extreme vacilating in the fluid makes it very difficult to achieve an accurate measure. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: What's the best insurance deal?
I too have shopped and found Progressive to be the best deal for my area (Ohio). With a $250 deductable, my annual bill is $90. I had to do a bit of arguing becuase most of the companies wanted to classify it as a sport bike first. That premium includes $1000 worth of accessory coverage.

Re: Final Drive Oil Change and Magnetic Plug
Thanks for the info. Moly describes the paste exactly. I've decided to change the FD fluid with every oil change from now on just for the piece of mind.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Final Drive Oil Change and Magnetic Plug
I changed the oil in my new final drive for the first time. The unit was replaced under warranty 800 miles ago. The oil was dirty (dark) and the magnetic plug was covered in a gray paste like stuff - no apparent metal pieces or any feel of grit - just pasty. In the past, I do not remember anything l...

Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
How about a device that would replace the stupid oil sight glass with a good old fashioned dipstick? I believe the oil sight glass to be as weak a link as the FD and drive splines!

Re: Disaster!!!! (I think)
Johnny: Glad to see your bike is back at home - where it should be! I saw your bike apart at the dealer when I was picking mine up for another FD seal leak and you are right - those pictures can't begin to do that damage justice! Your spline was completely stripped out. It looked bad. Are you going ...

Sorry to hear about this sort of outcome.
Please don't put your 1150 up for sale just yet because I am going to put mine in the paper this weekend.

Re: Disaster!!!! (I think)
When I discussed my concerns to my dealer...after my 3rd final drive oil seal failure...he had an immediate remedy for me. "Have you considered an extended warranty?" This line encapsulates the mind set of the "new" BMW dealer. The new goal is based in retailing and not motorcycl...

ONE BIG A** POTHOLE
It was a great morning to go fast and find the twisty roads...until I found the mother of all potholes and was not able to deviate from my path to avoid it. The tire did not loose inflation, and I don't notice any high speed vibrations but there is definitely a hit on one side of my rim at the bead ...

Re: Weak headlight=weak battery
I replaced my 3.5 year OEM battery this weekend with an Odyssey; really wasn't any big deal - just had to bend the positive terminal flat for a better fit and add an extension to the negative side. Upon starting I noticed 2 things immediately: the starter turned much faster and the headlight was def...

Re: Removed the touring windscreen
I took out the Dremel and ground a small oval shap into that black bracket that allowed a standard allen wrench to fit easily. A little black paint on that bracket afterward keeps the rust away.

Re: Gear shift lever
Check with Suburban Machinery, they are out of the Cleveland, Ohio area. Suburban advertises in the BMW ON magazine. I saw their display at our local dealer, and a longer gear shift lever was one of the components they make. If you can't find them on the web, let me know and I will find their contac...

Final Drive Seal Failure
It started with an almost unnoticable gathering of grime, smudging the bottom of the rubber boot...then just 3 weeks out of warranty it became a highly visible drip on the garage floor. 17,600+ miles and 37 months into ownership the seal is toast. Cleveland BMW took care of it under warranty (and ri...

Re: RR Seats
I had the front only seat mod done (w/gel) by greatdaytoride and I finally had the oportunity to put about 3 hours on the saddle last night: I am 5'9" w/ 30" inseam, upgrade was done to the "low" rr seat with no change to height of seat for me and no change to seat OEM look. The ...

Re: RR Seats
I had greatdaytoride do my low RR seat done over the winter. My initial thoughts are positive. He clearly has taken the "hard and sharp" edge out of the stock seat. The initial feel is much more comfortable. It looks very stock except for a slight outline where the gel pad is and the seat ...
