Re: Battery Access and Starter Problem Resource

Have any of you creative fellows found a way to access the battery without removing the tank? Maybe prop it just enough? For now, all I need is to disconnect the ground. For disconnecting the battery I have extended the earth cable to under the seat. I have the two terminals bolted together and cov...

Re: Slight hesitation from tickover as you open throttle

Just to give some closure to this thread... The problem turned out to be incorrect cable free-play at the throttle bodies. BMW recommends 2mm. One had no play and the other had .5mm. Both were adjusted to 2mm and the problem immediately disappeared. Followed up by a sync of the throttle bodies with ...

Re: Starter motor whine

Fitted it, went to start the bike and although it turned over strongly, the bike wouldn't start!!! You did check the stop/run switch was in the run position? On my bike, it won't crank unless the stop/run is in the run position. Is it not the same on all 1150r? Are you sure you have the right start...

Yes, this is something that has been suggested to me. Anyway, it's on the way back to Germany now for replacement or refund.

Starter motor whine is back but...

Recently the whine in my starter came back and it was worse than before. Didn't feel like buying an original for big bucks so opted for this.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Anlasser-Starter-BMW-R850-R1150-R1100-R1200-C-CL-S-RT-RS-R-GS-ABS-Motorrad/201894928760 Cheap, I know, but if I were to get a fe...

Re: Slight hesitation from tickover as you open throttle

Thanks for the help so far lads. New plugs and air filter, no difference. I'm borrowing two known working stick coils tomorrow to see if it's either one of them. I do have a spark from all four plugs but not sure if the spark is good enough. I'm really hoping it'll run perfectly with them in even th...

Not long. I collected it in Germany in December 2019 and it developed this fault half way through France on the way home. It's been sitting in the garage throughout the Winter.

Slight hesitation from tickover as you open throttle

I have a slight hesitation when moving off from a standstill over a rev range of about 150 rpm. It's a real pita when approaching a bend or a roundabout when blipping the throttle while shifting down and in fact it has cut out on me a few time in those circumstances which is a very big pita. Here's ...

Re: Starter motor whine

I decided to go ahead and pull the motor and found this.... https://garfieldus.com/images/r1150r/st_motor_1.jpg .... I have to say, I didn't think it was too bad. I took the top off, pulled back the gear, and to my disappointment it sprung back quickly. @riceburner, I immediately thought I had the p...

Meant to say - holding the clutch in made no difference.

Re: Starter motor whine

Is it more of a screech AFTER the engine has caught?? If so then your clutch slave cylinder and the associated bearing may need replacing. DAMHIK. Yes, it's certainly AFTER the engine has caught and having released the starter button. I'd still describe it as a whine rather than a screech though. I...

Re: Starter motor whine

Thank you all for your advice.

I'm aware of the fuel pump priming and ABS sounds. This is definitely the starter. I'll pull it and have a look.

Starter motor whine

Hi, after being away from Oilheads for about ten years I recently bought a 2004 r1150r.

Today, I notice a whine from the started motor for about a second after starting it.

Not sure what it is. Any advice?
