Re: Low fuel warning light question
My R1100R light comes on about 140 mi. I've stretched it out, when on an interstate with no exits in sight, to 170 once (yep, the low fuel light came on at 140 and I was getting worried) before topping off. I keep telling myself that I'm going to strap a gallon of gas on the back and see how far I c...

Re: R850R handbook
Anybody know how the cheap CHI flat irons post got here? Do I need to buy vowel? Am I going to need a special BMW decoder ring to decipher the post?
As a matter of fact, it shows up on just about every thread - site hijacked?

Re: Anyone have a "monster" Cee Bailey windshield?
I'll take a poke at this one. I didn't get the "monster" shield you mentioned but I did buy the one which is 4" taller and 4" wider for long distance touring. I am only 6'3" and about 240 lbs but I keep the stock shield mounted for local stuff as I enjoy the breeze around to...

Re: Rear Rack for 1997 R1100R
Tas, Sorry to be late to the party but below are links to photos of my bike with the GIVI rear rack - both with and without the monocase mounted. I've also posted the link to a pic with my bike totally loaded for long distance travel. Hope these help. Curt http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/1391772/ h...

Re: My touring setup
Thanks. I knew what I was getting into, though, as a buddy of mine, with an R1100GS, had one installed and I ordered the exact same model. I knew I wanted something I would leave mounted pretty much all the time (the only time I remove the box is when travelling and I bring all my luggage into the r...

Re: My touring setup
Bob, See links below which should show the GIVI mounting hardware, with attachment points, pretty well. I know the mount the box attaches to looks like is sloping downward toward the rear of the bike but everything is level when the box is in place. http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/1439580/ http://w...

Re: My touring setup
Curt - do you have any pics of the rack w/o the box? Also, any comments on the Givi rack? Seems to be the only game in town for us. I'll get you some. Right now, watching our Falcons taking on your Packers. As to the GIVI itself, I would do it over again if needed. The box itself is detachable but ...

Re: Mounting Stock Windshield
Is it the same mounting hardware as shown in the link below? http://www.ceebaileys.com/bmw/art/1100rmount01.jpg If so, I can send you pix of my mounting setup. Just PM me with your email info. I did this for another member on this board about 6 weeks ago. My bike with stock screen mounted: http://ww...

Re: My touring setup
how do you like the cee bailey compaired to stock? ( I need a replacement) I like it as it does offer more protection for the longer runs. Long distance runs, prior to the new, bigger screen, had always resulted in a sore neck/Headache - I guess due to the buffeting everyone talks about; No neck pa...

Re: Is there a false neutral beteween 5th and 6th gear??
6th? SIXTH? Is a six speed tranny available on the R1100R? Man, how nice could I cruise if I had one! Is it an aftermarket thing, a conversion from some other model, or a factory option? That was my first thought upon reading, as well; but he did specify a 2003 R850R. I know that the 850s and 1100s...

Re: National Cycle Windscreens
I have the 4" taller and 4" wider than stock screen Cee Baileys on my R1100R :D That is the same screen I bought and I heartily recommend it if you plan on long distance travel, particularly with inclimate weather. Several pix are posted under my "My Touring Setup" posting elsew...

Re: My touring setup
My new to me 96 R1100R came with a Russell Day-Long seat. These are expensive, but everyone who has one swears by them. The guy I bought from put 75k happy on his. I haven't yet tested on any 600 mile rides; but I have gone a couple non stop hours without bun burn. When we were in Appalachia early ...

Re: the pros and cons of the BMW sport windshield
Hiya hya, I presume BMW sport windshield you mention is the one which came stock with the bike (?new - if I'm incorrect on this - which shield came stock with your bike?). I just swapped that one out for a Cee Baileys +4/+4 and after 600+ mi over the past 48 hours - LOVE IT. I rode for years with th...

For those that are interested, after reviewing these posts, I looked up "chicken strips" in Wikipedia and they actually have a full entry describing this finding as it relates to motorcycle tires:

Re: National Cycle Windscreens
I bought an R1100RL late last year. it had a Parabellum Scout fairing on it. I didn't realize BMW offered a windshield for this bike. According to my dealer, BMW doesn't offer anything for this bike any more. I have the same bike and there is a BMW screen for it. Although the R1100R is now consider...

Re: BMW Recalls July 2008
Wow. Just jumped in to take a peek at the R1200R page and saw this. I have an R1100R and the steering damper is dead! Lots of other folks on that forum with same problems. Apparently BMW has a history of producing crummy steering dampers - good to see they are at least recognizing this and repairing...

Re: Steering damper removal?
A quick followup message from my earlier post. I took my R bike to the dealer this week for the work I mentioned (in another thread, I think) - steering damper replacement, brake line bleeding, annual service (drain and replace all fluids). Well, the steering damper hadn't come in (even though the o...

Re: Try Cee Baileys
I have a Cee Baileys on my R and it is perfect. I am 6'2" and, according to CeeBaileys the screen I have is taller and wider than the stock screen. I have the seat in the highest position and have smooth air running over my helmet (good for cooling the noggin :)) plus I get some nice cooling '...
