Re: Rear brake not functioning
I assume you've checked the rear brake fluid reservoir? As well as fluid levels within the pump (although you'd think you'd get brake failure light indication. Have you pulled the rear caliper and taken a closer look for anything obvious? Leaks, rust on the piston (which if there is the caliper may ...

Re: Traded her in
I wish I could say I'd never dropped any of the 3 r's I've owned but I can't. I remember dropping my '03 a time or two without any visible damage. Usually in a parking situation, and generally with an audience. I dropped my '04 a time or two and managed a broken left leg on one of those drops(2008) ...

Re: test drove an 03 r1150rt and think i may buy it.
I'm on my 3rd 1150, currently an '05 Rt I bought just over 2 years ago with 40K. I've now about 57K. I've found on my previous two 1150R's that while I actually got maybe a bit better fuel mileage on 89 (55-57mpg-at 60mph) 91-93 would run better overall. I consistently get over 50 on my RT if I don'...

Congratulations on the new bike!
Here's wishing you many many trouble free miles going forward! I've never ridden a Ducati, I've only one friend who has one but it's a beautiful machine. Don't be a stranger and let us know how it goes. Also a pic would be nice!

Re: Probable stick coil failure on '05 R1150RT
My guess would be that you do have the stick coils or dual plug ignition system. Look on the plastic plug covers and see if they say "Dual spark" on them. Also look under the jug and again if it's a dual spark engine there will be another spark plug with it's associated spark plug wire. Th...

Re: Probable stick coil failure on '05 R1150RT
I had intended to change the lines and summer of '20. Then 7/1 of that year I dropped the bike on gravel at an intersection and broke my right leg. That pretty well screwed up plans of pulling stuff apart. November that same year after experiencing some other physical difficulties I found I needed s...

Re: Probable stick coil failure on '05 R1150RT
I bought the bike 4/20 and I think the previous owner said the ABS had been done the previous summer. So it was close to 3 years. The fluid didn't look bad, just a tad darker than the new fluid going in.

Re: Probable stick coil failure on '05 R1150RT
Thanks Jeff, but I installed a new pair yesterday. And what a difference! There is one thing I need though.......the rubber grommet/gasket that sits just under(or behind) the connector that keeps water out of the plug tunnel.....I'm short one. Apparently one coil was replaced at one point as there i...

Probable stick coil failure on '05 R1150RT
I had just finished about $700 (parts) worth of service work on my RT. Changed out everything under the hood that could be changed and/or renewed. Brakes, Spiegler SS lines, alternator belt, ABS service, valve adjust, TB sync, fuel filter and internal rubber lines, new Odyssey battery, 4 new spark p...

Re: Test post
Geez.....Doug I love the site. And I'll contribute again but if he's talking about tripling the cost is it really worth it? This I know is a huge burden on you.
What can we do (if anything) to lower the operating cost?

Re: IABS bleed on 2005 RT question
An update......I finished the brake line swap and ABS bleed. I'm a bit slow as concentration is not what it once was. It's been cold and snowy here so I haven't pushed too hard. It went fine, no problems whatsoever installing the new Spiegler lines. I fought with one line for a bit as it seemed the ...

IABS bleed on 2005 RT question
I'm preparing to bleed the ABS system on my Rt. And while I've done this before on my previous R1150R ('04) the procedure is fairly straightforward. But I do remember reading a thread somewhere (with pics) of a fella that pointed out some small filter screens within the pump that should be pulled an...

Re: February
Well I didn’t have a super electronic hot inner jacket until recently but bloody hell what a piece of kit I should have had years ago. Which brand? I recently (well - 3 years ago now!) swapped my (massively over-bulky) Keis heated gilet for a 'Warm-n-safe' heated base-layer which uses less energy b...
