I have logged over 135,000 miles between two R's. I've found what matters more than the octane rating of the gas is the type and quality of the antifreeze used in the R. I had the transmission pulled on my recently departed '02 1150R to check things out. The clutch was still within spec. 39mpg. pretty average, on my commute. last tank, was 43, because wife and I took a 100 mile highway trip, and took it slow.

stay out of the throttle, and go a long way without stopping under 70mph, you MIGHT sneak up on 50mpg.
