Re: What octane gas do you put in?

I have logged over 135,000 miles between two R's. I've found what matters more than the octane rating of the gas is the type and quality of the antifreeze used in the R. I've run only the real deal from BMW. I will trust none other when it comes to coolant. Here's a link as well: https://www.amazon...

Re: What octane gas do you put in?

as sunbeemer said....way too much is said about fuel octane ratings. High numbers don't do anything for you unless youre making tons of compression, and heat. Or have advanced timing or high load...yada yada yada. Think of octane, as a level of stability. Therefore, it takes more heat and pressure t...

yes, touch up. or, get some stickers. :) or a new helmet

i don't worry much about the looks of my Shoei. as long as my noggin is comfortably snug inside. I just clean and wax it every other week or so.

yucky. rode one at an open house. its an overweight dirt bike. (good value for a beginner though) Just work on the Beemer. Iv'e missed like one riding weekend the whole time Ive owned it. because I was cheap, and didnt pre-order tires. LOL do your maintenance in the cold of winter. Its only down whe...

Re: Expected range of mileage on dry clutch and signals it's time to replace?

I had the transmission pulled on my recently departed '02 1150R to check things out. The clutch was still within spec. The splines and input shaft however was almost toast! :x how many miles? tore mine apart at around 19k... ZERO spline wear. still would be interested in this one to see overall #'s...

^ had trouble for the first time this year. felt like a kid ramming the square peg in the round hole lol

I think it was because Ive never taken my air filter out while the tank was still on....i usually do all that together.

got it though, a little manhandlin' and some choice language.

You're all set Terry- just the first couple posts need to be approved, thats how we deal with spam now. You wont need to get approval anymore! I agree with all of the above. We have many lurkers! Re: R-Nine-T PURE

I like the R-Nine series too. The urban GS has excellent retro-modern styling, but the Pure is similarly near-perfection. They don't look like road warrior though, so your R1150 tricked out for travel might be the ideal counterpart to the "less is more" Pure. loved the Urban GS as well! M...

Re: How many mpg are you getting on your R1150r

39mpg. pretty average, on my commute. last tank, was 43, because wife and I took a 100 mile highway trip, and took it slow.

stay out of the throttle, and go a long way without stopping under 70mph, you MIGHT sneak up on 50mpg.

i think, 47 was my best tank, touring.

I may be behind the times here.... but...well, we stopped at the BMW shop in Iowa City, only to look at gear, fit my wife for a jacket. And then I saw it! I mean....Ive seen photos, but didn't really look further. Oddly, Shes been wanting me to go BIGGER with an RT or other tourer. but then we both ...

Re: Tune up discovery

Mileage, like tires, are tied closely to how you ride. I can tear off a set of Ravens in 2500 mile riding with the sport guys for a fast pace week but if I am in normal mode and smooth on the throttle and brakes W/ few quick accelerations and heavy braking I can get 6K/8K out of them. Practice bein...

Re: Tune up discovery

are you SURE about sticky brakes? the problem can be a dirty caliper, or gunk in the line. that when you release the brakes, they either do not release because pressure cant escape, or release slowly, sot he pads are dragging on the disc. MPG's are all over the place for me when it comes to gas qual...

thank you, tower. Your mileage is very encouraging. Im quite impressed with my raven rear, think im close to 2000 miles?. handling is just fine, now just waiting to see how they last. even if its NO improvement from the Contis or Michies....at the cost, with no loss of ride quality, i see no reason ...

Re: Tune up discovery

that is low even with funky plugs, or even fueling problems....unless you really get on it, or sit in traffic a lot. Curious, Are you wearing out brake pads quickly? check for a sticky rear(or front) brake. Go out, make sure brakes are cool. THEN go for as long a straight line ride as you can. and t...
