I gave my bike a present today

I felt generous today and decided to give my bike a present. http://imageshack.us/a/img546/6517/jgj4.jpg Sry for the crappy phone pic. A nice new set of Wilbers black line shocks with all the bells and whistles :) Considering the old shocks were the original ones, now with some 90000km's on them the...

Re: Getting old and decrepit question

Can't be a very nice condition to have, hope I never get it. However, in addition to the BMW scooters and the Honda NS, why not try a VFR1200? Best of several worlds, V4, auto transmission and Honda reliability ;)

Just a thought. Figure you won't feel as old and decrepit on one of those :)

Re: Vibration vs. RPM vs. Throttle Position

Thank you for your feedback! I figured/hoped the motor was still a bit tight. While the vibrations might improve over time lets not forget that its a twin we're talking about, and twins vibrate. How do your new R1200R compare to your tiger? Was it a 1050 Tiger? Reason I ask is I have a slight, usua...

Re: 2014 R1200R wethead ?

I have no imminent desire to replace my 07 and hope I don't run into any situations where I would *have* to get a new one. That being said, if there will be a H2O RR and it turns out to be of great appeal, then maybe some years after its introduction where initial bugs and snags hopefully got addre...

Re: Range on a full tank

After 81 fillups my best estimate says its possible to get 21-22 litres in to the tank, but that's with filling it to about 2 cm of filler tube to spare ( or as in almost to the brim). Range is way to dependent on outside factors. I can make my bike do anything from 4,6l/100km to 7,6l/100km over a t...

Re: Worn Tires = Stiff Handling ??

I just tossed the OEM 21's at 6000 miles. Still had @ 2K left, but I never really liked 'em. They were sketchy in anything other than sedate riding. This bike is capable of so much more than that. Put some PR 3's on and the difference is extreme. They ride softer and grip harder, much more complian...

Re: R1200 Water Cooled

For sure it'll be interesting when the wethead reaches the R, but looking at the water GS makes me want a HP2 Megamoto. Spotted one today in town and got a slight urge that I'll probably will easily resist. Its actually a little sad, but since I got my '07 R with pinstripes I've kinda lost interest ...

If it weren't so darned expensive I'd get one for sure. Only screen I've seen that actually makes the bike look better.

Re: best tire for bmw r1200r

So, is it being said here that most rear tires are getting 5-6000 miles and the only one getting a bit more mileage is the PR3's. Unfortunately its not quite that simple, riding style, braking habits etc will influence mileage quite a bit. But the PR3's do seem to give good mileage compared to othe...

Re: Land speed record dream"n

I'm with Lost, should be a nice experience. I've had my '07 up to 208 km/h (129.25 mph) on the GPS and it was still pulling nicely but closing in fast on the rev limit. With different gearing it ought to be possible to go significantly faster.

It looks great, only after market screen I think actually looks good on the bike. Thank god it's as pricey as it is or I would be sorely tempted ;)

Re: Valves every 6,000 miles. Really!?

Service intervals are just for guidance ;)

It would however be interesting if someone who checks them every 6k took note how much they were out each time, maybe even made a nice little graph of how the valves develop over time :)

what is the conversion factor from liters consumed per 100km to miles per gallon. Let me google that for you. http://www.calculateme.com/cGasMileage/LitersPer100kmtoMPG.htm I know perfectly well how to convert from l&km to mpg, its just that I refuse to use an archaic and inefficient system for...

Re: Better MPG

I average at 5,6l/100km over the last 20k km's. That's usually with panniers and a mix of urban, highway and rural roads. I´m a rather big guy and have been known to twist the wrist on occasion. I've found that city riding and high speed stuff pushes the average up significantly where as riding alon...

Re: best tire for bmw r1200r

Ah, I love nit picking tire pressure, its almost as much fun as discussing oil :) Either way I ran PR3's a slightly above recommended pressure and got close to 20000km's on them. Although by then the rear was pretty flat. Did have some singing at one point towards the end of life on them. Didn't qui...
