Re: R1150R frame pivot removal - is it possible?
It's not called the Frame Pivot. That's the rod under the end of the tank, directly above the Telelever pivot which allows the rear frame to be swung upwards for serious wrenching on these bikes. No, the rod in your foto is the Rear Frame Cross Member . I think personally that it's essential to remo...

Re: Hello from Wirral - why am I here!
When I first joined a car workshop's team of mechanics as a raw recruit many decades ago, when meat was cheap and I had hair, and started servicing cars like the Morris Minor and Ford Pop., the head honcho there showed me how to put a dab of grease on each nipple under the car to make it look as if ...

Re: I am so excited to be back!
The detailed info above from Barista is all spot-on. As to the issue of bar risers, the ones you already found that raise the bar up and pull it back a bit are the best, so long as you've checked that the wiring and the front brake and clutch hoses, are long enough. When I transformed my 2nd Rockste...

Re: Fuel Starvation
I agree with the last comment of kirby's. It sounds to me like a not-fuel-supply problem. Something else perhaps. Does the pump make its comforting whirring sound when you turn on the key in the morning ? If so, it's not the pump. Could be a blocked fuel filter. A bit of sh*te can possibly float aro...

Hi Chet, It's now around the time that your BMW dealer has given you a heart-attack with his quotation for a clutch refurb job, or you're a stalwart type who thinks "Stuff that" and gets ready to sort it out yourself. I'm one of the latter types. It's quite easy to check the state of your ...

Sorry, I forgot to address your Clutch Plate Alignment Tool question. I got mine for 15 snoojits and it's in my view such an item is essential unless you're a real dab hand at using the Actuation Rod as a centerer and have perfect visual judgement on how to make sure the plate is dead-central inside...

As noted above, BBY in the USA does the longer-hubbed clutch friction plate, as does MW in Yokk-shurrrrr, plus RK Motonet here in Spain, plus a few German Beemer bike spare parts suppliers. Shouldn't be too hard to get hold of one, and please do so even if you think your clutch is still within its w...

For emission zone commuting you'll never find a better two-wheeled non-scooter than the Honda New Concept 6-speed auto / manual 750. On mine back in the UK when riding 'normally', I get around eighty-five, yes, 85 mpg. It's a proper motorbike that I've toured the Picos de Europa on, easily keeping u...

Re: Rockster Windshield?
I like the look of Maitre's Z-Technik screen - never seen that one before and it's specific to the Rockster. The main advantage being it's securely fixed via the side cowl bolts, thus tidying up the handlebar where my Givi 610 is clamped. With BMW OEM handguards also on the bar, it's very crowded. B...

Pyramid Plastics is the maker of the Fender Extenda. A USA firm I believe. But I agree with our friend Riceburner that there's never been a proper mudguard design for a motorbike since Triumph's Dustbin Fairing on the Speed Twin :-

My 14-yr-old Gearbox Input Shaft splines turned out to be in pristine ex-works condition, and slightly greasy. So I assume the bell housing / gearbox split job had never been done before and the grease was factory-applied. The ringer bolts were also all as dry as a witch's whatsit. Here's the view o...

Take a peek at the video below. The guide pins for easing back the tranny in a straight line, and for re-mating afterwards, are M8 threaded rod - about 10cm in length - or M8 100mm bolts with the head sawn off and a screwdriver slot cut in the new end. The PITA when sliding the tranny back from the ...

A mention to hya1.. I gather that the critical reviews were written during the period when bike journos - not the most inspired wordsmiths in the world - simply concentrated on critising BMW's unusual winker-operation system, instead of writing objective reviews about he marque's positive aspects as...

Here's my recently-shot video of the Clutch Slave Cylinder Access video. Many people, inc 'Steptoe', say there's no need whatever to remove the tank and slightly lift the tail to shift that irritating X-bar out-of-the-way. I say bollocks to that. Pull the blasted thing out from the right-hand side a...

Re: Leaky fuel disconnect
Sometimes, what seems to be a leak at a QD can actually be the fault of a pinch-to-clamp-tight OEM hose fixing that's got tired, or the rubber it's holding on to has deteriorated. Remember BMW Motorrad only guarantees the rubber components on its vehicles for a mere five years, and that a good-condi...

I'm on my second UK-version year-04 non-ABS Rockster tiger-stripe. Recently imported at vast expense into Spain and matriculated into the Spanish white rear number-plate system. Aaaahh, you hit the nail on the head sweatmark. Last Spring when I played about for hours with the duff HGs on my Rockster, before I noticed that the wires heading down to the under-tank area had simply been lobbed off and hidden in there by a previous owner, I DID notice the lack of elbow-room in t...
