Re: SpeedBleeder

HAH ! https://s26.postimg.cc/yqn1y0xi1/Goodride_SPeed_Bleeder_x-section.jpg Thanks to Merlin Motorsport in the UK for this cross-sectional drawing of the new small SB by Goodridge. So it DOES have a one-way ball-valve, albeit microscopically small. Apparently, you crack open the nipple a smidgeon b...

SpeedBleeder

¡ H E L P ! The one on the right in this picture was supplied to my pal Motorcycling Mo for his enormous 1150 GSA as a SpeedBleeder. I looks nothing like the silver Goodridge item on the left which is fitted to my bike. But on the Bay, all the so-called Goodridge SpeedBleeder pictures are like the o...

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

Non-USA boxer bikes of year '02 onwards have 4 spark plugs, hence they have stick coils.

See the graphic grabbed from REALoem's parts fiche in my post above replying to Towerworker.

I'm not sure about the mostly-Chinese wetheads with the wet clutch and the shaft on the left.

To repeat, for the benefit of AZBMWRider....

Non-US models from year '02 have stick coils. See my reply above to Towerworker including the weblink to the RealOEM parts fiche.

This is the so-called "universal touring" screen code 610 by Givi. It gives me some protection at normal speeds but is entirely useless at 100kph onwards. https://postimg.cc/image/sd2ov8iit/ This is the French "SecDem" barn door of a screen on my wonderful, now-UK-based automatic...

Re: 2002 R1150R Sputtering

¿ It's a Japanese-market bike ? If so, II'd bet that the year '02 models there have stick coils.
Gotta be a faulty stick-coil or two.

Re: Misfire/rough running

My recent experience points me at always - before investigating throttling, fuel-supply, sychronism and any other issues - ALWAYS rule out the possibility of a faulty stick coil. Use the proprietary elegantly-machined alloy pulling tool ( the supplied plastic one often breaks ) to remove a stick coi...

Re: Where's that brakes flush procedure ?(nonABS)

On the brakes of several bikes of that period, a Werkstück was also fitted to the brake calipers, instead of a regular bleed nipple.

Relevant video, even tho' we're talking here about the brakes, not the clutch. Same principle applies. Gentle heat.:-

Re: Where's that brakes flush procedure ?(nonABS)

Last Wednesday, keppelj said :- "I'm finding the bleed assembly impossible to crack." I think he means trying to get the Werkstück off the end of the short bleeder hose ( from the slave cylinder ) that's hidden in its sponge rubber sleeve behind the helmet lock, zipped to the frame. It's d...

Re: Clutch bleed question

Back in the day, the guys in the factory with the mullet hairstyles used to call the item a "Werkstück" - meaning factory piece, 'cos it was only ever used in the assembly process to save a few minutes labour time by whizzing the DOT4 in from the bottom upwards. After that process, the ite...

Re: Rockster Windshield?

If it isn't a brakes thread on a biking forum, it's a windscreen thread. BMW Motorrad in the 70s launched the ill-fated C1 scooter after their wind-tunnel expertise of several decades proved to them beyond any doubt that there is no really effective solution on a high-speed motorbike to the inherent...

Breaker, breaker, C.W. McCall is your only source - a yard which "parts-out" in US parlance. Or a specialist BMW Motorrad used-parts firm like Motorworks in Yokk-shurrrrr. They break BMW bikes all the time - you should see the size of their enormous almacen up the road from their main offi...

Re: Seat Options?

I wouldn't really recommend the option I chose in order to give me more legroom - and less knee cramps - on my Rockster. I decided to fit a used set of GS pegs, both sides. Many many mods were needed; too many to go into detail here, but certainly gives me a much much more comfy seated knee-angle an...

Re: Where's that brakes flush procedure ?(nonABS)

After an hour or two's U-Toob videos search, seems to me that this Japanese guy's silent video with the Google-translated badly-written captions is reasonably OK as he's trying after removing the pads, to avoid pushing back into the caliper body the crud-encrusted caliper pistons. https://www.youtub...

Re: Where's that brakes flush procedure ?(nonABS)

Yes, Keppelj, the factory / cyclerob preferred routine of Caliper Piston Push-Back / Push-Out / Purge-'n-Replace sequence is for sure, for sure the most thorough way of expelling all remnants of 'old' DOT4 that normally stays trapped in those pesky corners inside the calipers. cyclerob's long experi...

45 to 55 mpg, depending on how I ride. So it's roughly between 160 and 220 miles from ram-jam full to the point where the tank's reserve light comes on. Here in Spain, when favouring non-autovía roads, it's possible to have a minor nervous stress attack when you realise that the low-level lamp's bee...

Re: Where's that brakes flush procedure ?(nonABS)

Just buy three Speedbleeders - Size: 10mm by one. Two SBs for the front brake calipers and one for the back. Attach a clear plastic tube to the SB. Put the other end in an empty jar and make sure it won't fall over ( Been there, done that ). Remove the lid from the bike's front or back brake fluid r...

Yes, and the new stock of Beru stick coils for our bikes now comes with a stainless steel sleeve that is supposed to better resist condensation-caused corrosion.

+ 1 to the 'glad' comment. But Towerworker, I beg to differ - this graphic from the RealOEM parts list is for a year 2002 Euro-version 1150 bike. Which has stick-coils....proving the fact that once more BMW USA AG is historically right up to current times, actually behind the times. As usual with th...
