After my experice seeing my unlatched case in my rearview mirror bouncing down the road this summer, I keep planning to do the Cycle Rob mod. I was lucky in that I was in the left lane and lost the left case, which came to rest leaning against the center guard rail on I-476 (the so-called Blue Route...

You're not the only one. My R seems to be much smoother and more responsive in cool (less than 50F) weather. Don't really notice any difference in power, just an overall "better" feel than at higher temps.

Hard core cold weather

This doesn't really help with the question but the hardest core winter rider I ever saw was a bartender in Vail, CO. This guy rode an old boxer (this was in the early '70's) through the winter to his job as bartender right in the heart of the ski resort. As the roads were pretty much snow packed fro...

What happend to oil?

Wal Mart thread or oil discussion?

Anyone use Rotella T synthetic? I've used in my cars for some time and am happy with it - pretty much the same specs as Mobil 1 but only about $13/gallon. Only comes in 5W40 though.

Sorry Bob, I-80 is the dividing line. Maybe could let you slide if you were in Netcong . . . Actually, I no longer live in Oak Ridge (am now in the Phila area) and am just giving you a hard time. I constantly hear from folks down here that they are going to North Jersey, only to find out that they m...

rd -- The manual says that #W-40 can be used up to 86F and also allows for brief excursions in higher ambients. This should be pretty much what you'll be facing since most of the really hot 90+F days are probably over in northern Jersey - although your neck of the woods is considered central Jersey ...

Thanks for the suggestions but I've go to see how this pans out. Supposedly the PA statues: 1) require your insurance company to pay 2) mandate that it is a "non-chargeable" accident and 3) prohibit your insurance company from raising your rates due to this claim. We'll see. So far, it's b...

Thanks for the tips and for your offer, rd.
I need to see what eventually happens here but I may wind up taking you up on your offer.

Bike knocked over - owner kicked

All right, the subject line might be a just a little misleading but I wanted to vent and to see if this has happened to anyone else. A couple of weeks ago, a fellow firefighter from another station backed into my R with his fire company's command vehicle. My R was knocked down and the result was a d...

Gord -- Very sorry to hear about your friend. I live in PA, not very far from the Talleyville area where the accident occured. This area (the Philadelphia to Wilmington corridor) seems to have some the worst drivers I've ever encountered - and I've lived in several parts of the US and the UK and hav...

Simon -- You can use a Y-pipe with the stock muffler to "improve" the sound of the R. The exhaust note is slightly deeper with it but also more raspy. The overall noise level increase is quite small. Remus and Sebring offer the pipes (I think they are the same) and I know that the one offe...

It certainly can't hurt to do a valve adjustment and it is very easy to do yourself, especially with the aid of somthing like the Oilhead Valve Adjustment for Dummies. I should have said: It certainly can't hurt to do a valve adjustment and it is very easy to do yourself, especially with the aid of...

There are many others who frequent this forum who are far more knowledgeable about things mechanical but in my experience, the sound of valves tapping is not a bad thing, nor is it an indication of a pressing need for a valve adjustment. The boxer engine makes a lot of noise and you shouldn't be too...

Re: Givi 146

Thanks for the feedback. Your bike looks great with the A146. I'd have repaint the the silver to try and match the [red] paint on mine. Question: Does the mouting system for the "universal" Givi's like the A755 work well? I actually like the looks of the A770 and would live with one in bla...

Givi A146

For those using or familiar with the Givi A146 sport screen: Are you happy with the quality of the screen? More importantly, is the mounting system up to the task? All things considered, would you recommend the screen?
