Re: Finally Upgraded to the R1200R
Well over 100k miles on my 1150; now over 43k miles on my 09 r12r. The word to compare the two is that the 12 is more "refined" in every way to the 1150, though at first you'll miss the bad boy/girl attitude of the 1150. Very very similar though. Ran my 1150 without the can for 80k miles, ...

Re: Travels with Blanche DuBois 2014: A Pas de Deux
I rode down to Boquillas Canyon on the river and found this self serve knick-knack stand. It was late afternoon and as the sun went down the sky turned blood orange. Not much traffic and though the roads were nice there were not a whole lot of challenging things to deal with in the twists and turns ...

Re: Travels with Blanche DuBois 2014: A Pas de Deux
The next morning the ride begins in earnest. I'll be in Big Bend this afternoon, but most certainly by a roundabout way. I'll ride to La Linda (The Pretty) on the Rio Bravo (Rio Grande). Actually not La linda; you can't get there from here as it is in Mexico and I arrive at via interrupta .The route...

Travels with Blanche DuBois 2014: A Pas de Deux
Bucket list, schmucket list. It could be ^that ^ which motivates, but that is only if I am playin’ all high-fallutin; putting’ on “airs” and such. I have told myself that it’s the bucket list that pushes me to reach out, and partly true though it is, it is really something more primal and earthy. Th...

Re: Sturgis
With respect, Harry, what is the appeal to you? What is the "show?" As I said I've not been there during the bike weeks, but have spoken to those who have and it sounds like crowded roads and "rolling thunder." Obviously different riders have different preferences and definitions...

What maroons. Do you like noise? Do you like exhaust fumes? Do you like riding like a lemming with 100 other lemmings? I would like Thelma and Louise to lead a ride. Are you obsessed with pointing out road hazards with your foot even though everyone else in the murder of crows has already poin...

Re: Another Tire Thread
Are the stories about PR3's being noisy accurate I didn't find them so and I ran through 3 sets. I did find the ride sort of squishy/soft. Some may like that, but I preferred a firmer ride. I ran a rear Z8 for a while and a Z6--found them very similar, but mileage wasn't that great though z6>z8. I ...

Re: Fuel Strip (Again)
Put me in the I-Think-You're-Lucky camp with Don. But wouldn't that be wonderful if they actually made it work? It loses it's linearity when it is getting close to reserve and when on reserve, ie the light is on, it is wishful thinking to think that the odometer will match up to the display. The dis...

Re: slip on for more noise
That's funny It's not that it's louder so much as it's a different sound, a little more bad a$$, but just a little. More of a classic motorcycle sound(whatever that means) And you remove sig weight 13 kg I think And it looks better IMO seeing the whole rear wheel. Obviously others' mileages may vary...

Re: slip on for more noise
unfortunately no, bike is now in Texas (and I'm not). Easy enough to hear though, remove the muffler. Adding the extension changes the characteristic of the sound, at once muffling slightly and changing the throatiness of it.

Re: slip on for more noise
take the OEM muffler off and go to Midas et al and get them to cut you a 4-6" length of their regular tubing and bevel the distal end to point away from the bike. Ten bucks? They even have stainless but that is more expensive. I used their standard aluminum/steel alloy and "polished it&quo...

Re: Save Your Old Sparkplugs
Wonderful! Ingenious! This is the most clever mod since externalizing the fuel filter. I like my r12r a lot, but I really miss the ingenuity of this section. There is no 12 forum that can compare. Though my Stella! now resides 400 miles away, if she were still here I would be sorely tempted to do th...

Re: 2004 BMW r1150r
Don't know exchange rate, but for USD I think that's a little high. Look at the slave cylinder---in front of the rear shock, get a flashlight. and be sure it's not leaking as that is $$$. Also, 65500 kms for a clutch is early, unless there were "clutch spline" issues. Be sure that's not th...

How do they fit in a helmet? I had the etys but they wore out. Their replacements stick out farther so they freq get pulled out when removing my helmet.

I too rested my legs on top of cylinders on my 1150. As the r12 arrived w the SW Motechs I can compare. Resting my legs on the SW Motechs is very similar in feel and maybe a little more comfy.

Agree on black/painted, btdt, unless you're never going to need them.
Those highway pegs , I think , really spread your legs and put you in an awkward seating position.

Re: crash bar suggestions?
I use the SW Motech and yes they allow that. Might also have a look at Ilium works...they have hwy pegs to attach to them, though I have not found then particularly anatomically correct on a friend's 1150RS. The SW Motechs are not real stiff metal and even with a 0 mph tipover they do bend slightly,...

Re: NO BMW content Medic-Alert
you were very lucky. I was too. An important point to remember, you alluded to. That is, to not assume there is a "typical" pain of angina. IN fact, you experienced the next thing I was going to say and that is that one's angina pain may be different from one time to the next. Great, huh? ...
