orbea54 - interesting to hear your experience about wind-protection. How tall are you? I'm 5' 9" and found that the KS was a very comfortable ride compared with the RR with speedster screen. I still love the RR as it has 'character' although getting back on it after 3 hours with the KS it did f...

duke, no I hadn't considered the K1200R sport. TBH I don't kmow much about it but will do some research. What attracted me to the S, apart from the obvious performance increase over the R1150R, was the smoothness of the engine and the better weather protection for longer-dstance rides. I find that 3...

prosper13 - great post and I think you've hit the nail on the head. Even though I hanker after the K1200S, I would still be sad to say goodbye to my R1150R.

Thanks. Comfort is definitely a factor. I had a 3 hour stint on a KS last weekend and my wrists were aching afterwards. Maybe more time on the bike would condition me. Other than the wrists, I found the riding position and the seat to be on a par with the RR. The ride is much quieter and much less v...

Talk me out of it!

I have recently ridden a couple of K1200Ss. Very smooth, fantastic performance and handling, even though I doubt I got anywhere near the limits. I am seriously thinking about either changing my RR for the KS or, if I can find garage room, adding it to my collection. Does anyone own both bikes or has...

I have owned several BMWs over the years including 2 x 2002 cabriolets. I love them. Currently 'my other vehicle' is a Fiat Panda 1.3 Turbdiesel although I'm hoping to add a K1200S to the stable soon.

I use mine for this purpose - absolutely fine as the current draw is very low.

I have a separate socket with heavy-duty cables for jump-starting. Have never had to use it but it's good insurance against a flat battery!

Finally got around to posting these pics of the original QDs and the OMEGA ones I replaced them with. I suspect they are all made by the same manufacturer as the internals of the OMEGA ones look remarkably similar and are also made of plastic. My local BMW dealer told me that the O-rings are 'one-ti...

Tank-off takes about 30 minutes. Make sure your fuel level is as low as feasible before doing so.

You can then access the sender unit and perhaps bend it a little and at the same time replace the in-tank fuel filter.

The job sounds worse than it is in reality.

Good luck.

I don't know where rich1kim is based but his use of the word 'homely' reminds me of when I worked in Florida in the 80s. I described a young lady's apartment as 'homely' and she was most offended. 'Homely' in the UK generally is used to mean 'comfortable' and is a complimentary term. It's that 'beii...

Challey is right. I ordered my parts thru Omega UK. They did eventually arrive after about 6 weeks. Total cost £58.88 including delivery. With luck, they may now be holding some stocks of these parts so delivery might be quicker.

Good luck

I have a disc lock too but never use it for fear of forgetting to remove it before attempting to ride off. It happens. I have one of these fitted (http://www.datatool.co.uk/consumer/products/products/index.php?product=system3) It wasn't cheap but was a prerequisite when I bought the bike in order to...

I agree with the Quick Disconnect comments however, and am about to replace mine if OMEGA ever actually deliver them. However, even allowing for these, there seems to be a reluctance to remove the tank. In fact, it is very simple to do and make access to the battery, fuel and air filters so much eas...

I just fitted new ones on Saturday and checked the gaps but they were already correctly set.

The earth electrodes have a curved profile. It is possible to insert a feeler gauge at an angle at each end of the profile though obviously the gap may vary along the length of the profiled edge.

good that you're okay and that the bike is not too damaged.

shame about the deer but hope you managed to strap one across the pillion-seat and get it home to the freezer before it got too gamey :)
