Re: Warm Weather Riding Jacket

My light colored "hot weather" jacket is a Rev'it Air jacket. I'm sure it does not provide the maximum protection, but it is COMFORTABLE in the heat. It flows a ton of air. It is far from the cheapest "mesh" jacket. It does not come with any liner, so it's not the most versatile ...

Don't worry. My bike does that, too. It has since new.

Re: Pilot Road 2 installation question

I've probably only have got 500 miles on the rear PR2. The front is still a Metzler Z6, with plenty of tread left. So far, I have no complaints. It's far better than the old squared Z6 that came off! But, that is all I can really say so far. As many good things as I've read about these tires, I expe...

Re: cylinder head exhaust pipe glows red!

What is going on here??? I can't believe that Wayne (towerworker) failed to give some sage advice about the bikes cooling system. Especially one with red pipes! I guess you found the search function, you will indeed find most every question has been asked. If you search "antifreeze" (or m...

Work... and practicing landings with a Boeing 777-200ER, when work is slow. I'm awake all night, every night.

But, I'll tell you what makes it hard to fall asleep...knowing that the aliens will be back again.

Re: Brakes R1150R

The low fluid warning lights are for the fluid levels in the wheel circuits. Those reservoirs are on the ABS unit (You need to pull the gas tank off, to check/fill them).

The fluid levels in the control circuits don't ever drop (unless leaking).

I am one of those unfortunates, regarded as a servant, who do a lot of work for those who enjoy that modern lifestyle, for little in exchange. I have to live on a tight budget. Enjoy your comfortable lifestyle.

Either Wayne (towerworker) is psychic or we've seen this happen before. ;)

Don't be embarrassed, these things happen.

Lesson learned, ride, have fun.

Re: Brake caliper bolt

Hank, I get the impression that the threads must have been damaged, since you had problems removing it the previous time, and snapped it this time. I definitely would re-tap those threads (or if that isn't possible, replace the caliper). I understand you don't want to disconnect the caliper (bleedin...

Re: How often should the splines be lubed

Just remove the drain plug, gravity will do it all. Don't let it dribble on your tire. Oh, and it is good advice to crack open the filler plug first, before the drain plug. If the fill plug is stuck (and you strip it) you won't have an empty final drive! It would be a hassle to drain the old oil out...

Others have observed a false warning. The problem was the wiring to the sensor.

Re: SHAFT DRIVE OIL LEAK

It could be coming from the transmission and running down. But, most likely it is coming from the final drive.

The most likely cause is that the final drive was filled with a little too much oil at the last change.

Re: Greetings + questions

Yeah, I should have mentioned the option of removing the ABS unit and converting to a tradional non-ABS. Sweatmark (that's his screen name) did a great tutorial on doing it. Check it out, below. The R1150R ABS removal is easier than the Rockster, because the speedometer on the RR is not electrical. ...

Re: Greetings + questions

Welcome mcampy, First, the removal of the wheels from the bike is as easy as any motorcycle gets. The bike comes with a center stand. The factory supplied tool kit is sufficient. It's even easier with real tools (ratchet, sockets, torque wrench to set correct torque values). Or are you talking about...

Re: The joy of doing it yourself...not.

We call 'em "yellow jackets". They are a big ass bumble bee (very painful stings). When I took off my helmet and riding jacket, Amy says, "Kirk, hold still. You've got a yellow jacket on your collar." So, I snapped a self-portrait and slowly removed the fleece. No yellow jackets ...

I warned you I could be full of it...

Sorry, I had no idea that BMW made a 4th type of screen. When I bought my bike, there were only three types (the ones that towerworker has).

Like they said, not a good idea to reuse the input shaft. Look here, same problem on an RT. I also thought this thread was informative because it has pictures of the paint marks on the three clutch pieces. That was a problem for somebody here a while back. http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbth...

Going on memory here (so I could be full of it)... The shield in the pictures, is a non-BMW shield. I don't know what brand it is. BMW "sport" screen isn't a perfect bubble like like the one pictured, it is contoured. I also think the "sport" shields were all tinted dark. The sma...
