Re: NO BMW content Medic-Alert

The hospital staff was surprised at the documentation I had on me.
and very pleased, I'll bet.

Carpal tunnel mimicking angina??? That is VERY strange. Glad it was nothing more serious.

Re: NO BMW content Medic-Alert

I carry a medical history and a living will in an envelop easily found in my tank bag, labeled "Medical History/Living Will." All this is on two sheets of paper and decidedly low tech. I harvested the forms from a hospital where I used to work and modified them a bit. A small flash/thumb d...

Re: Thumbs up for Valdi's Moto Zone in Torrance CA.

a little OT

PR3s...y'all think they're sorta "squishy?" I got good mileage from the 2, 3 sets I've had, but the road feel is soft. And they started slipping on tar snakes with 4k miles on them. Running Angel GTs now, better road feel mileage is close enough, I believe.

Last ride: Godspeed, Owldaddy

It is with sadness that I report to our group the loss of one of our members, Owldaddy, aka Don Ward. Don passed away after a long and brave battle with cancer in January of this year. He and I conversed, about his illness and his courses of therapy via pm over the last year or so of his life. As su...

could be wrong, but I think that recall is only for the 1200 series.

The layout on the 12 vs the 1150 is different.

Re: Touring with a Gold Wing and R12R

have check points and cell phones. Plan gas stops and meet. It may be just fine. All the talk and reading and analyses will pale vs actual experience. You won't "know" until you do it. I'd say go for it; the reward outweighs the risk. I mean it's only a couple of days or so, right? And you...

Re: 304 miles on tripmeter and showing 159miles to empty..

Hi, Mike, I think probably everyone does that, but the problem with that technique -- and it's great if this is not a problem for you -- is that mileage varies widely on these bikes from a low in the mid to low 30s to the high 50s mpg. If you''re always riding in nearly the same environment and can ...

Re: Cold and QD's don't mix well

Wayne, you need to change those. They are on borrowed time. Chances are they''ll fall apart in your hands. They were a weak link in the fuel system from the get go and now they are suffering through heat expansion and cold contraction. Glad you're riding. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts a...

If you're not the first owner how will you be notified? IOW, how will BMW know who to properly contact?

Hope to see a New Jeffers arise from the ashes of Bike Trader, and as the poet would say (not sure if it's Homer or Clapton) regale us with Tales of Brave Ulysses on two wheels. And I, too, have a few years on you! You're a young man. Having parted with Stella! a few months back I can tell you there...

Re: 304 miles on tripmeter and showing 159miles to empty..

Usually takes a number of minutes to get to the ultimrate number, read longer than you'd think. I think it may recalibrate every 90 secs??? And it takes MANY recals to get to the end. Or it could be failing. Vigilance, grasshopper. Or you're riding like your grandma That it was almost empty at 304 d...

Re: 304 miles on tripmeter and showing 159miles to empty..

another thing I've noticed is that when the MTE (miles to empty) is counting down, the closer it gets to 0, the faster it decreases. IOW, if it is showing 40 MTE, do NOT expect 40 even if riding conditions are the same. The reading becomes erratic down low, and it does not always illuminate at the s...

Re: 304 miles on tripmeter and showing 159miles to empty..

I'm with you ^^ I'll bet you forgot to reset the odometer; still, with taking 4.7 to the bottom of the filler tube and showing 159 left and av 57 mpg, I think that reading is still optimistic. Do you always fill it to the same level, always the bottom of the tube? If your "full" level vari...

Re: Grommet and nut ??

something similar to those are called Well Nuts. They are used, in my experience, to very poor effect on the touring windscreen bracket. They work much better holding on the panels and oil coolers. Well nuts can also be found at Lowes and Home Depot. They are with the hardware in those rows of gray ...
