Re: Throttle Return
beemerron, The most likely thing to cause that is the twist grip rubber rubbing against the bar end weight. It is caused by the way the throttle pinch bolt was tightened down . . . with the grip too close to the bar end weight. Check yours and see if there is not any space between them. Since the p...

Re: Crank Bearings.....
riceburner, I was prepared to listen to the engine running. The crank bearings that are the first to fail are almost always the connecting rod big end bearings. Fixing that motor would require a full deep dive, as the crank is a few of the last shaft type parts to be removed. Can you guess what cau...

Re: Rear Brake Light
dbqlaw,
Your bike's front and rear brake lever/pedal pivot points are sticking and are in need of a take-apart-4-cleaning and greasing. You also may have a big bug squashed into the front or rear brake microswitch actuator(s). Finally, years of normal wear could require freeplay readjustments.

Re: new battery dead in a month
KeithB, I would not throw away the LED voltage monitor as it is valuable. Blaming it for killing your battery is misplaced, as it was the fault of the PO made the "always on" wiring mistake. [-( I would relocate it to where it is visible while riding and wire it to the 12V power for the f...

Re: new battery dead in a month
KeithB, The Voltage tester device is really great as a charging system monitor -IF- it is wired to display the voltage only when the key is on (engine running). The PO found a 12V source and used it, maybe even thinking the tiny 10ma draw would be OK. It is NOT OK for key off storage.

Re: Loose Steering or something like that
Like riceburner I also ran 36psi Front, 42psi Rear in my long gone R1150R. It accommodated solo/dual riding, gave excellent fuel mileage and handled really crisp in everyday riding. Your front tire at 30 psi is WAY TOO LOW , and likely why you are experiencing those unnatural steering traits. I woul...

cgguy09, You are not alone in having this pump sock pickup alignment problem after a fuel filter change. You hopefully ARE alone in that this time the BMW dealer made the mistake! We can all thank BMW engineers for not only foolishly making the perfectly symmetrical bolt pattern, but also for NOT p...

Re: R1150RT Throttle Sync Problem
Jeff_with_an_r1150rt, Since you bought and installed the TB parts below -and- replaced the TPS, it tells me you very likely did not properly set the blue painted left and right TB idle stop butterfly openings or index/calibrate the TPS idle stop voltage. That is why a BBAS cannot adjust away the to...

Re: Vibration from engine
WhiteDog, Vibration at an idle, considering the 20 winters your bike has lived through means there is a good chance of partially clogged fuel injectors and/or an errant TB synch. I believe the 850 and 1100 OilHeads have a simpler, different throttle cabling system where one cable goes between the 2...

Re: Slow-Turning Starter
WhiteDog, To fully charge a wet cell battery you need to sustain a 14.7V sustained voltage level charging current until the charging current drops off to near zero, indicating the battery is fully charged. That could be anywhere from a few minutes to 20+ hours, depending on the depth of battery dis...

Ethanol in our tanks and fuel system
Here is some good info on the 10% Ethanol in our fuel (USA) and the scary, expensive damage it can cause. The bike in question is an R1200R. http://www.cycleworld.com/real-world-look-at-alcohol-in-your-tank Here is the stuff I use. It protects from Ethanol related corrosion and fuel line degradation...

Re: throttle body adjustment
Member sstein is correct when he asked "More of a idle rich/lean matching procedure?" The 2 BBAS fine tune the air flow to compensate for both throttle butterflies that are almost always not open the exact same amount while they are resting on the blue painted throttle stop screws. When th...

DAM650,
The How-2-Adjust procedure is detailed in the middle of a water Manometer construction post here: http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=156874#p156874

Re: R1150 Final Drive fluid
"due to pressure building up in final drive" That is nonsense. The FD is vented thru the cap shaped black plastic component on the top of the FD. It is at the end of internal passageways that separate the oil from the slow moving air venting while preventing rain, dirt and road spray from...

As a retired M/C mechanic I have some sound advice. Considering you broke not just 1, but all 4 wheel lug bolts with a 24" breaker bar , #-o I suggest you automatically cancel any future wrenching plans . . . . as the consequences very likely will be a lot more expensive and/or dangerou...

Filled up with 3.75 litres as per the owners manual. Oil level is now half way up the window. . . . . By the way 3.75 litres converts to 3.96 US quarts. I think you will find that when there is a proper HOT oil, side/center stand drain time shutdown that 3.96 US quarts will be at the top of the oil...

There are so many errors in your "conclusions" (only 1 and 4 are totally true) that ALL of it should be totally ignored. The fully detailed, precise outline that covers all the important variables is in my post to this thread on Sept 21 here: http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?p=254250#...
