Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

Glad your up and running. Your issue surprise's me, the 2010 to 2014 final drives on the "R" does not use a sealed bearing, this bearing is oil lubricated. I wouldn't have expected it to go bad unless there was a catastrophic seal leak or no final drive oil maintenance had been performed....

Re: Is anyone ever here?

BTW - the one thing I always liked about this forum - it's not a bunch of whiners. We actually seem happy with our bikes. It becomes tiresome on the other forums reading all the unhappy, whiny posts from people who apparently hate their bikes. I think the R12R has a basic "goodness" that c...

Re: Is anyone ever here?

As an update - I sold my '07 R12R with 96,000 miles on it to a chap in Alabama (hi Brian!), it now has in excess of 100,000 on it. The only reason I sold it (I was going to keep it to try to wear it out..) was a 2012 R12R with very low miles on it became available locally. So - I bought the 2012, so...

Is anyone ever here?

I can remember when this would be my first-visited forum every day (of course I was working then.. so I wasted a lot of time on forums..) Now - I open the main page of the forums, and if I see the date on the latest posting hasn't changed I don't bother going any further. Where did all the R1200R pe...

Re: R1200R Fusebox Recommendation

FuzeBlock - http://www.fuzeblocks.com/ - Got it for the convenience factor: built in relay, no need for an external one. All fuse positions are capable of always-on or switched-on. Easy wiring - the wire clamp is ingenious, and doesn't chew up the strands of wire. I had other ones - and after having...

Castrol TWS/Edge 10W-60. It's behind the counter at Advanced Auto (they'll pretend they don't have it - tell them to look in the back.) Full synthetic, made in Europe, 1-liter bottles. Was $13.50/liter yesterday when I bought some to change my oil. Change it every 6,000 miles. Results are - my R1200...

Re: New PIAA LED lights - and mounting

There would be no problem mounting them to that surface IMHO. Harry - the website must not be too clear - but PIAA thought of that - and there is a second set of mounting holes (blanked off with a decorative plastic plug) that would be used if you want to mount them to a vertical surface. As far as ...

Re: New PIAA LED lights - and mounting

Don, can you update us as to how these lights are holding up? Sure. Love'm. Holding up just fine, have seen all sorts of weather, no sign of fogging up, they continue to outperform any other auxiliary light anyone in our local club has on their bikes (we park on one side of a parking lot - facing t...

Re: Final Drive Oil - Change Frequency

Actually - I don't think the milkshake looking stuff is from moisture. I've noted it also on my final drive. I think it's grease from the bearings. The bearings aren't perfectly sealed, and some oil is going to work it's way into the races and tend to wash out the grease. That's not a bad thing - th...

Re: Need help with Electrical Problem

Jed, The antenna ring symptoms are considerably different from those given. EWS is displayed loud and clear in the LCD display. The needles do nothing. Nothing happens. It is basically dead. That isn't your problem IMHO. The symptoms here sound like a bad battery connection of some type - or a defec...

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

There is actually a spec for allowable play when checking it at 9 and 3. Dunno where you'd find it - it may be on the Repair-ROM (aka RepRom). The amount is minor. And the dealer should know that number. BTW - my first one on my '07 made it well over 100k (and is still going) and I fully expect my s...

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

How are you feeling the play? That's rather important. And if the main crown bearing is starting to go - there won't be any metal in the oil - that bearing lives outside the oil cavity. It also can be replaced.

Re: I am an old new guy

Have a dealer run the VIN# - and make sure all the recalls are done. There were several for brake lines, and one for the rear-brake disk carrier - it was aluminum - that cracked - it was replaced with a steel one. As mentioned - fuel strips and make sure the ABS light goes out (if it has ABS) after ...

Re: JW Speaker LED Headlight Conversion

Uh, my typo... I meant to say 2007 R12R. Was going to use the Model 8700 Evolution 2. I didn't see an adapter ring listed.. (lots of HD ones though..) any ideas on how you'll mount it into the standard headlight shell? One thing that possibly could cause a problem is the bulb monitoring system the ...

Re: 2011 - R1200r - K27 - Rear Main Seal or Counter Balance

Regarding sulfur smell, the gearbox oil was fully synthetic and smelled like nothing during fill up and draining, at least to my nose, so no luck there, nothing like black coffee and cigars to ruin the olfactory senses I guess. Upon removal the seals seemed very stiff, I wouldn't call them brittle ...

Re: 2011 - R1200r - K27 - Rear Main Seal or Counter Balance

Was there any indication of slippage when it was leaking? If so - I'd use a buzz-palm-sander on the pressure plates and plan on replacing the disk. Consider the amount of work if you have to go back in to replace the disk later.. That said - I do know of cases where an oiled clutch disk worked just ...

Post script. The pads that came off were EBC sintered with over 40K miles and they were still in good shape. I'll hold on to them for spares. I can't even begin to guess how many "spare" sets of rear pads I have now.. plus pads from the Lexus, Cayenne, etc. Not so bad I feel OK throwing t...

Removing the canister won't - but I believe removing the electronic vacuum valve will. The system monitors that valve. Open circuit would cause an emission fault, which will light up the light.
