Re: Should I get back in?
appears that Ron has given you more evidence that the R is a good choice for you. Maybe I can add a few more points. I bought a brand new '07 red/white/blue Viffer while owning an '02 R bike. I thought I needed more pizzazz in my life. The VFR is a truly fine machine and I don't want to get into whe...

Re: System bags
don't take this as a grumpy reply, but try and take a few minutes to read posts (past and present). there is a post about 5 down from yours that shows how a member attached aluminum bags to his R. searching through posts is a great way to learn more about the R.

Re: Has anyone ever tried one of these?
had a couple different ones over the years. one was wider than the other. they are just ok. they get in the way of my ability to use the throttle effectively in curves and when you come off a country road/highway into residential areas they are a pain. if you are going to "slab it" for a f...

Re: Gonna Keep This Bike........
i felt the urge to respond to Ksbeemer posts about troubles with the R and how the factory should fix certain things and his purchase of the new CB. i have not ridden one, but did spend some time sitting and making observations at the motorcycle show about this retro honda. i don't get it... the sin...

another positive note: when you swing your leg over and accidentally toe kick the lid it doesn't leave a scuff mark. good for us old guys or the lazy ones.

Line-X city lids... whaaaaa???
Thought this post would help put a smile on or be one of those "things that make you go hmmm.." I had these city lids left over from my '02 bumblebee and they were painted yellow with the gray tank graphics running along the bottom. I worked like a dog to prep and sand them for a repaint t...

more battery drivel
I have also had Odyssey battery in the past, but here is why I like the battery made by Exide for BMW. It has a higher AH rating (19 vs. 17) so it stores more energy and makes starting in the cold easier if a lot of cranking is required. The real reason I like it better? It fits in the case and the ...

Re: don't leave your bike running in the parking lot
I knew a guy who left his Yamaha FZ idling on his driveway while he helped his wife in the backyard and came out to witness a melted lump of motor. Idling any bike for extended period of time, even a water cooled one, is not a wise move. When an oilhead sits in a traffic jam, you should turn it off ...

Re: Warm bottom! Sheep skin seat cover
dang! no need to pitch a tent when on the road. just sleep on the bike. looks comfy and a sheepskin butt pad does work for the cold, but they are also pretty good at keeping it cool in the summer. i have used the alaska sheepskin product on long trips. Re: Maintenance nightmare?
sometimes in life you just need to dig in on your own, make a decision and either live with it or back up and try another way. having riders on the board "tell" you what to do, won't make your journey on the R any easier. besides, that is the fun part of owing these bikes. if you try somet...

I keep going back to the 380 mm Tall. It offers decent protection. I especially like the 3 point connection which makes it very solid.

Re: simple question to the masses
I have used the manual/instructions that Oliver referred to for over 10 years and it is the best. The humor is great, not overdone, but really adds to the whole experience of doing your own maintenance. It is easy to pick back up later to refresh your brain when you reach the next scheduled maintena...

Re: GoPro Hero cameras... fun but be careful
yes that is true in the US also. however the video clearly shows the ATV jumping off sand dune cliffs with a height of 15'. that is what people buy them for but launching them like the video depicted could give cause for a dealer/manufacturer to balk at providing the warranty. it really doesn't matt...

Re: engine tick
probably. when was the last valve adj? if you think about it, a tick is better than a flea. with those you have set off a bomb, wear a collar, and use powder. some even use a greasy substance rubbed on the back of the neck. sorry, couldn't resist.

GoPro Hero cameras... fun but be careful
I love these things... we have two of 'em and it is fun to put both on the R and get the action coming and going. Now for the caution which comes from a true story. Neighbor, good friend, doesn't matter and I will be a little vague so that there is no chance for identity, wrecked his 2 week-old ATV ...

Re: Fuel filter and parts for 2002 R1150R
Time for more fuel filter talk? Changed out the fuel filter and this is what I came up with. This is a 4 or 5 year old filter and less than 5000 miles. This is a bike new to me, so it would not have gone this long before I would have changed it. I just don't like to ignore the filter. And, yes, the ...

Re: Noise coming from gauge area
Yup, it was the rubber gasket around the tach. cheap fix... wrap a 1/2 wide strip of black duck tape just under the lip of the tach and pull the gasket over and viola! no more noise. or spend $7 on a "revolution counter damper ring" (guess it is not a plain "gasket". no wonder it...

Re: Am I a newbie since I have not posted for a couple years
I don't think you are missing anything. The site is a decent design and was launched to gauge interest. The guy who is the brains is a GIS guy with tons of mapping experience. The idea is to not just collect rides/roads from contributors but to have an actual application where you look at a map on l...
